Here you can ask me anything you want help with in Greek.
Feel free, but don't ask me any swear words because there is no use...

oh! Does anybody speak Greek here?
I'd be glad to speak Greek with someone here!

What is the difference between "bios" and "zoe"? Do they both translate as "life"?

they mean the... same thing
Greek is a rich language that has many meanings.

βίος (vios-bios):
- Life.
- The duration of life.
+ Biography (βιογραφία) comes from βίος (vios-bios)

ζωή (zoe):
- Life.
- the situation at which a being with organs can eat, be developed, be reproduced and react in stimuli

I took the definition from a dictionary

it is quite different in the way we use it in language when we speak. I don't know if it's clear to you know. If it's not please tell me so I can try to explain better Smile

Well, I often need help with my Classical Greek homework...

Are you familiar with this, or just Modern Greek?

classical Greek?
i don't know but I've heard of ancient Greek...
is that the same? am I wrong?

no, I am not really familiar with that but I maybe can help...
I went in a Greek school only for elementary but I still do Greek and I talk everyday since I'm Greek. The only problem though is that I go to an American school where we don't learn Classical Greek.
Ask me though and I might be able to help Smile

Yep. According to my teacher...Ancient, Classical, and Old Greek are all synonymous. Don't know if that's the way it is with everyone, but it is in my case.

The hard thing with studying Ancient languages is that you can't speak with a native...that's why Ancient Greek is the hardest for me so far. I'm sure Ancient and Modern Greek are pretty similar on some levels and I've been told that Greeks who haven't studied old Greek can kind of understand what's going on when they read it...

Well, I don't have any burning Greek questions at the moment, but I'll let you know when I do. And believe me, I will! Probably next week. Thanks.

This isn't so much vocabulary, but I was wondering if you knew how to differentiate between Italian and Greek names? Just out of curiosity, but it would be pretty helpful in identifying nationality! Ta.

to differentiate between Italian and Greek names you need some experience in one of the languages because names are different in each culture. Of course, though, there're no rules for names Sad

you can ask me any name you want though...
