If God ordered you to kill your child, would you do it?

The God of the New Covenant through Jesus Christ would not ask this.

Deveron, so you think it is OK to slaughter other people's children, if God tells you to? I am relived that an ocean separates you and my children!

Umm? I haven't said that.

Come on Joe you cannot be serious! I'm not going to go into this. Leave it at that unless you are seriously questioning.

If somebody's child necessarily had to die for some strange reason, that could be arranged without involving the parent. Murder is contrary to love, and therefore contrary to God. Accordingly, God wouldn't order anyone to kill his/her child, since that would be to act against himself. Therefore the whole scenario is inapplicable as I see it.

So then Abraham, when he heard God order him to kill Isaac, was just as nutty as Deanna Laney, the Texas woman who heard God tell her to kill her kids and did exactly that. Wouldn't you agree?

In the way you've outlined the supposition Yes I would follow Gods instructions. I would also question why, which I guess would make me a not-so-obedient follower, something like Joan of Arcadia.

Husker, if I understand you correctly, you're suggesting that God changed in some fashion between the Old Testament and the New Testament. Presumably, that change had something to do with Jesus Christ. But if there was a change, what was it? More particularly, why did God go from a guy who would tell folks to kill their own kids to a guy who would never do something like that?

Witch 'god' was that, you say; 'god of the New Coven'?

I had to vote for 'which child', because if I ever have more than one, and one is a complete terror despite great parental rearing, I might just fake voices in my head saying that god told me to do it. I'd go for a temporary insanity plea, and spend a few months in a nice cushy room. Seems worth preventing a lifetime of grief. Laughing

I figured I had implied 'if good parenting fails', but it hardly matters, given that I have a strange feeling that I'll be one of those annoying parents who hates all children except my own, who of course, will do no wrong. Wink

So one is safe in assuming that you give no credence to the biblical account of Abraham and Isaac?

The literal interpretation as a factual historical event? No.
