Inflate or destroy self?

@Olivier5,
I can only recommend that you examine that "self" more carefully. But without a very strong motivation to do so, it will not happen. Instead you will take an uneasy comfort in the conventional perspective that there is a self thinking about the self that he feels he is experiencing.

@JLNobody,
I can only recommend that you stop hating your self... And note that when I say "I" or "you", I am not contradicting myself, unlike you.

It must be hell to constantly bite one's tongue for fear of uttering a paradox.

WHO is asserting that WHO doesn't know?

I am asserting that I do not know. If you see that as a paradox...I cannot help you. I honestly do not know the true nature of REALITY...and the REALITY may be that there is only one being...me...and that everything else is an illusion that I created complete with a cloak to prevent me seeing that it is an illusion that I have created.

So I cannot rule out the possibility of me hiding from me...so I can logically assert that I am asserting that I do not know.

So you don't know if you exist? If you don't see that as a paradox, I cannot help you.

@Frank Apisa,
Understood. Whether or not you 'know' is certainly your decision. It is also another's decision, and saying their religion made them believe something is a bit of quick judgment. Maybe they follow a religion because it confirms their beliefs rather than makes them. Again, I have the saying, "Do not believe something simply because I have said it, Buddha."

Apparently we cannot help each other...if there is an "each other."

Frank...c'mon. I was taking a shot...and I am amazed that you did not see it. I have all sorts of **** thrown at me by several people...and I took a rather mild, kidding around shot.

Read the thing over again...and see if you can see it as the kind of easy going tweak it was meant to be. I am not willing to engage in some of the name-calling and gratuitous "you are stupid; you are an ass" nonsense...so occasionally I take a mild shot at someone.

Your existence may be dubious, but I'm positive that I exist.

@Frank Apisa,
For a modest fee, I can also certify your existence.

Actually...you can't. Just as I cannot certify yours.

That was my point.

Are we...or am I...or...

Look at it this way: if you exist, I would be providing you with true and morally conforting information, well worth a few thousand dollars, and if you don't exist, you won't miss your money anyway !

@Frank Apisa,
That's fine and I'm not complaining. The 'shot' is not what matters, it's the flippant dismissal. I'm just saying it was an easy out. And yes, too often here we resort to personal attacks. I didn't take your statement that way at all. That's not your M.O.

Here's another:

A man once asked the Buddha, ‘How can I find happiness?'

The Buddha said,
'Remove ‘I’ … that’s ego,
and remove ‘want’ … that’s desire,
now, see, all you are left with is Happiness.'

Of course we have to attempt it and not just believe it... :-)

Great bumper stickers.

But more than likely, that is all they are.
