Cicerone Imposter brought up the Las Meninas painting by Diego Velasquez but he didn't post it re the dog - rather, the mirror.
I can remember quickly Veronese's Christ in the House of Levi..

I'm busy, but post photos..

let's collect some paintings.

@ossobuco,
Here's a closeup photo of Paolo Veronese's Christ in the House of Levi (it's at the Accademia Gallery in Venice):

and a photo of Velasquez's Las Meninas, at the Prado - with the dog quite prominent -

For something a little different, Pierre Bonnard's Nude in Bathtub (from the blog, the bark.com; Dogs in Impressionism, by James H. Rubin)

@ossobuco,
I want to pump this thread again - the possibilities from centuries past and right now are pretty good,

@ossobuco,
I'll have to revisit my past dog in art photos I've seen at the Brooklyn Museum and at the Met. Either I'll have to find them or rephotograph them or find them online.

Then there's the famous dog painting from Goodfellas.

One dog goes one way, the other dog goes the other way, and this guy's sayin', "Whadda ya want from me? "

I never paint with dogs--they get into everything, and make a big mess.

@ossobuco,
Also - I shouldn't have just pushed for paintings with dogs, but other arts too. (duh!)
