Now we say

some adjectives+ er
or
more + some adjectives

to show comparison, but for LESS, can we use

'less + adjective+er'?
Can I write?:
To say this will make the admiration less and not greater.

I'm at a loss to understand the connection between this and your sentence.

@JTT,
Sorry.... I must admit that sometimes reducing things to rules can be very baffling.

My question was, we can't say 'more greater', then how can we say 'less greater'?

That's so true, WB, because it all too often leaves ESLs with an impression that that's how it works when there are many nuances to most "rules".

Can you give me some examples?

@JTT,
Thanks.

Example:

To say this will make the admiration less and not greater.

Ellipsis has come into play:

To say this will make the admiration less [greater] and not greater.

To say this will make the admiration less [greater] and [will] not [make the admiration] greater.

In English, we say

Whether answer A or B is right is less clear.

People do not say LESS CLEARER

then how can we say LESS GREATER?
