context: in an airport I give a friend of mine a send-off, can I say?:

Have a safe trip.

Is it idiomatic? Some say no, because whether a person can have a safe trip cannot logically be controlled by him; but I don't think this reason can stand, because English people may say HAVE A NICE DAY; by the same token A NICE DAY cannot be had by artificially controlling the event, but I still can't be sure whether that phrase can be use to see someone off.

Of course it's idiomatic and very common, WB.
