Adjective Use!

I would be grateful for the identification of grammar in the following;

"it was a cold and icy monday morning. David was running late and burst out of his front door to catch his usual bus. Unfortunately in doing so David slipped violently and broke his arm, which was excruciatingly painful"

Many thanks

@grange666,
I believe the words in bold are adjectives. Monday is a noun but I think it's working as an adjective here.

"It was a cold and icy Monday morning. David was running late and burst out of his front door to catch his usual bus. Unfortunately, in doing so, David slipped violently and broke his arm, which was excruciatingly painful"
