Believe not all; or, if you must believe, stomach not all
this line from Shakespeare what does it mean??
what is "stomach not all"
I think it means don't take it - don't accept it.
What play, act, scene and line?
I can make sure.
Antony and Cleopatra
Act III. Scene IV.
Oct. O my good lord!
Believe not all; or, if you must believe,
Stomach not all. A more unhappy lady,
If this division chance, ne’er stood between,
Praying for both parts:
If you must believe it, don't swallow it and digest it and make it a part of your being.
Believe it for the moment, but then vomit it out.
