That's a ridiculous statement dlowan.
Laser pointer, swords...what next? Forks?

It's ridiculous that most others don't prefer to live like people in dark ages, middle ages or the wild wild west but are civilized?
Socialist statement there Walter. A armed person is a citizen, an unarmed one is a subject.
Here's one you'll all love I'm sure.
Physicians:
a. The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
b. Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year 120,000.
c. Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.
(Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services)
Now think about this:
Guns:
a. The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000.
b. The number of accidental gun deaths per year (all age groups) is
1,500.
c. The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.000188.
Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than
gun owners.
And more good news.
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, approximately 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1938, Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945, 13 million Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, the mentally ill, and others, who were unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1935, China established gun control. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents were unable to defend themselves and were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1964, Guatemala established gun control. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1970, Uganda established gun control. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1956, Cambodia established gun control. From 1975 to 1977, one million "educated" people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
That places total victims who lost their lives because of gun control at approximately 56 million in the last century. Since we should learn from the mistakes of history, the next time someone talks in favor of gun control, find out which group of citizens they wish to have exterminated.
Lol and hohum.
This weary ground has been trodden o'er too often, Cjhsa. It seems to be an obsession with you folk.
I have no time to waste on an argument that never changes, where nobody will change their mind.
You may attept to provoke as you will, if others choose to walk the weary rut with you, so be it - I am off to fresher paths...
Eh, where did you learn
a) to present statistics
b) learn how to read them
and
c) why do you mean that I've got an IQ below 40?
Sword bans, like gun bans, operate based on the absurd premise that if you take a rational, law-abiding person and give them a sword, they become a danger to others.
Walter, I have no idea what you are talking about. IQ below 40? I would never accuse you of that. 20 maybe.
I can only laugh at you who ignore the facts. Sorry dlowan, but your opinion is and remains ridiculous.
Lots of people drown every year. I think we should ban water.

Ever catch the Penn & Teller's show, "Bullsh!t", on Showtime? They did an episode debunking the environmental movement, and had their producer go around during a big environmental march on Washington, DC gathering signatures for a ban on "di-hydrogen oxide" (H2O). They got hundreds of signatures, including one from the woman in charge of the whole event. The producer who was walking around with the clipboard only made honest statements about "di-hydrogen oxide", saying things such as...
"It's used in nuclear power plants."
"It's found in most of the food we eat."
"It can cause excessive sweating and urination."
I was laughing so hard I almost excessively urinated on my couch!
Yeah they do! And I can't recommend that show enough. New season is starting soon. If you have the movie channels, check your listings for "Bullsh!t".
The season premiere is Thursday, April 1 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.
(the above is a reminder note to me because I never can remember what time it comes on)
How are laser pointers considered to be a weapon? Are they prohibited in Australia? Are they thinking of banning flashlights next?
cjhsa wrote:To the aussies on this thread - this kind of law is simply ridiculous. Do you have any idea how stupid you look to ban swords? They'll just sharpen broomsticks next. Stupid is as stupid does.
Oh well ...
It's simply to stop groups of young men in "gangs" from doing each other damage in public places. The last episode was publicized in advance on the internet. Perhaps passers-by don't want accidently find themselves confronted with such a situation?
dlowan wrote:Well, cjhsa and tarantalus, I am happy to look foolish to people who are anti-gun control - you see, foolishness in such matters depends upon where you are sitting.
The US looks ridiculous in these matters to most of the world...
C'est la vie...
<nodding head in agreement>
You need to go hunting and/or fishing msolga.
And clearly, the "rest of the world" as you see it has been wrong before, as they are on this issue.
Why are you so afraid of guns? You need to learn to be afraid of bad and stupid people instead. Educate yourself. Upgrade.
