If you learn to diagram sentences it would help you figure out what each word's function is in the sentence.

Don't let that discourage you, Dall. As an erstwhile writer myself I've forgotten all the rules yet can compose reasonably intelligible sentences..

..if I gotta

Quote:
1) He is ...... nice boy
a) so b) too c) such a d) such an
My answer is A) so
© is best. You can say, "a (so, too) nice boy" or "(so, too) nice a boy" but "too" means he's cloying

2) "What get him to do?"
I.......him clean his room
a) get b) got c) made d) asked
My answer is C) made
(c)'s okay but you had to force him

"I get him to" means he complies to my request but not necessarily every time
"I got him to" means he complied once
"I asked him to" means I requested but he didn't necessarily comply

Those weren't rules, Dale, they were prescriptions. That why you've forgotten them. It's not possible to forget the natural rules of language.

Another reason is failing facilities. For instance JTT scrolling up I can't remember in the faintest way having posted #….295 above

Oh Admin , if you're listening: Postings ought also to be numbered sequentially within thread, so as to make such refs easier

However don't list this requirement above that to provide instant scrollbar

That's not true, Dale. Under normal circumstances, we simply don't forget the grammatical structure described by the natural rules of language. Everyone forgets the silly prescriptions. Studies show that even those prescriptivists who rant about this nonsense fail to follow those rules in their own writing.
