As a nurse I would have to agree with both Roger and Osso.
The nurse / (assistant?) should have worn gloves.
The reason however is primarily for his or her protection.
As a patient I would encourage you to monitor
hand washing of medical professionals. Statistically, poor hand-hygiene is where we medical professionals should do better.
Hands should be washed before and after any physical contact with a patient (whether wearing gloves or not).
