How to confess my love through a letter?

I really love this boy and I want to tell him how I feel through a letter. His birthday's next week and I would like to give it to him. The problem is I have no idea of how to start! Even though what I feel is very strong, I would like say it in a subtle way, since I don't' want to frighten him. Can you help me please?....

I suggest just sending a card, with a more or less general message. Don't sound needy. If he reacts to the card fine; otherwise, back off for a while
