5-Year-Old Texas Boy Shot During Unsupervised Hunting Trip

The boy was with his 11-year-old brother last Friday near their home in Harris County when he shot
himself in the chin with a shotgun, according to KHOU.

The older brother said he had laid down the shotgun while they were out hunting and his younger
brother went back to retrieve it. He said he heard a gun blast and then found his younger brother
shot in the chin.

With no time to spare, the older brother put his wounded brother in the backseat of a car and drove
to a neighbor’s house for help.

“I was sitting on the porch, car comes flying in here,” said the boys’ neighbor, identified only as
Mr. Fred. “That was a strong little boy,” he added. “I kept telling everybody don’t get his heart
beating, just keep it calm.”

Another neighbor, known only as Ms. Beth, applied pressure to the boy’s wounds, while paramedics
rushed to the scene.

The boy was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where he was treated for his gun
shot wounds. The boy was listed in critical but stable condition, as of Friday evening.

A Florida boy was wounded last week after he accidentally discharged his father’s handgun while looking for a snack.

The off-duty Clay County deputy, whose name was not released, was eating Thursday with his son at Wendy’s in Middleburg when the child reached into his pants pocket.

That jostled the deputy’s handgun, which he owned privately and was not a service weapon, and caused it to fire inside the eatery.

The child was injured by a bullet fragment that ricocheted off the floor and cut his legs and foot, investigators said.

A woman suffered a graze wound when a gun accidentally discharged on a CTA bus early Wednesday morning in the Archer Heights neighborhood on the South Side.

A 45-year-old man riding the #47 bus southbound on West 47th Street at South Kildare Avenue about 6:30 a.m. discovered a small firearm sitting on a seat, according to police and CTA officials.

The man thought the gun was a toy or lighter, picked it up and it discharged, police said. A bullet struck a vent under the row of seats, and a fragment struck a 47-year-old woman in the left thigh.

SALT LAKE CITY – Officials say a Utah teacher carrying a concealed firearm at school was struck by fragments from a bullet and a porcelain toilet when her gun accidently fired.

Granite School District spokesman Ben Horsley says authorities initially believe the sixth-grade teacher accidently shot herself in the leg while in a faculty bathroom at an elementary school in the Salt Lake City suburb of Taylorsville.

He says they now believe the bullet struck a toilet, causing it to explode.

The accidental shooting by an off-duty police officer inside a Target store brings up questions regarding what police are telling the public.

The shooting happened Saturday night inside the bathroom. Nobody was hurt and the officer called 911 after the incident.

Officers were notified at 12:25 p.m. that a child had been shot on the 2600 block of 77th Avenue in East Oakland.

The child was taken to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

MUNCIE – One person was rushed to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital on Wednesday after city police responded to a shooting call.

A 15-year-old male was shot in the leg while handling a loaded firearm, according to city officers on the scene. He was transported to the hospital but his injuries were believed to be non life-threatening.

WICHITA, Kansas – Police were called out to a south Wichita residence after reports of a gunshot fired at 4:30p.m. on Friday.

Police reports indicate that a 56-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman were cleaning out a residence when they found an antique handgun.

The two did not know how to unload the gun, so they set it in the back of their vehicle. The gun was loaded, and fired, injuring both people.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- There was a stillness in the air at La Sorelle Salon this morning as employees returned to work without their boss. Employees had to let Renee Chaires' clients know that she would no longer be able to be their stylist.

Chaires was fatally shot Saturday night while she was at a birthday party for her and her daughter. Chaires would've turned 40 this week. To celebrate, police say, they were holding a cookout at her older brother Eric Stayton's house.

"During this gathering there had been an accidental discharge of a firearm which resulted in, ultimately, the death of one of the persons there at the cookout" says Leon County Sheriff's Office Spokesperson James McQuaig.

Police say that Stayton was twirling a gun around. He went to re-holster the gun, it slipped out of his hand and onto a concrete floor. When the gun hit the floor, it fired, shooting Chaires in the neck. She later died at the hospital.

TALLULAH (KTVE/KARD) -- Authorities confirm that a Tallulah toddler was killed in an accidental shooting Monday afternoon.

Tallulah Police said it happened at 4:05 p.m. at 509 N. Chestnut Street in Tallulah.

According to officers, a mother was taking care of three children, two boys and a girl, when she left the house for a couple of minutes to get them something to drink.

Police said in that time, a three-year-old boy found a loaded .22-caliber handgun and accidentally shot himself with it.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -

Columbus police arrested a 20-year-old man after he accidentally shot himself in the leg Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the shooting occurred in the 5700 block of Joshua Place 3:25 p.m.

Deshon Gregory Sallee called authorities to report someone had shot him in the left leg.

Medics transported Sallee to an area hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound.

The investigation later revealed that Sallee actually shot himself while riding in a car. He allegedly hid the gun inside a home on Joshua Place following the shooting.
