I forgot to add - a squeeze of fresh lemon over the dish of pasta, ricotta, spinach.

(whispering) OK, y'all made me so hungry I had to stop in a Starbucks after my interview and had to eat a cranberry scone. Yum...........(shhhhhh.......don't tell Wassau) I couldn't make it back to the cafe before I went bonkers with hunger.

(In a loud voice, yelling) Wassau, can you whip me up some of this pasta with spinach, ricotta and lemon right quick? I'm starved. I think I may have a chance for that job. Yes! But that's still a maybe. In the meantime, I got a call from a person from another job interview several months ago saying that she may have a job for me there. Sooooooooo, maybe things are looking up. I'm sure it must be the pills.

It has not been done to my knowledge to link ricotto torte, gnocchi and other exoticisms to corsets, basques, garter belts , stocking tops and other exoticisms as dressings for what is, in both cases, a basic commodity in order to render it palatable to jaded tastes.

Spendi, your word craft is excellent. But you are still being provocative with the other cafe guests. I'm glad we all get along. And Socrates would have been pleased if he had been with me at the (Starbucks) place where I got the (scone) stuff. I was starving and not a little bit because of all the food talk today.

I've said and not said a lot of things. I'm moving forward and I don't look back. Thus....

I've made the decision that none of my posts from this point forward will be in any way or manner, self-referential.

This is my first post in that new series.

@blatham,
You are so right. It's never about any of us. Sit here, Mr. Bernie and have one of Wassau's scones. But look out for spendi. He'll say it's just a glorified biscuit. Posh, you know.

@Lola,
Aw, Spendi thinks a biscuit is something like a cookie.

A cookie is a type of biscuit, but there's others, like digestive, rich tea, custard creams, biscuits all, but not cookies. Nobody in the UK would ever class a scone as a biscuit. There's been a court case over this, because biscuits attract VAT and cakes don't. As is the case with jaffa cakes.

It was successfully argued that jaffa cakes are cakes because biscuits go soft when they age, but cakes go hard.

@izzythepush,
Those jaffa cakes look delicious - haven't had them for years. Okay, no Eggs Benedict, so a plate of jaffa cakes perhaps?

Anyone ever tried whipped bone marrow on toast?

Bone marrow used to be good for BSE, Mad Cow Disease. Okay I know that's really MCD, but still. Spinal cord mainly, I think.

I was thinking of braising some oxtail though, if that's not too pretentious to mention, so I hope they've got that sorted.

@vonny,
And, because they're cakes, not biscuits, they're dirt cheap.

@izzythepush,
can never understand that, with all the really great breads, pastries and cookies out there, why would anyone even consider eating a scone?
Ive never had a good one no matter what part of the english speaking world in which I eat.

@farmerman,
I think I've tasted a good scone once. Quite a while ago, though. When I made a batch of them, with currants, I had to eat them so not to waste. Ugh. Give me a crumpet with butter any day.

I've looked up crumpet recipes before; easy, except one needs to possess crumpet rings to pour the batter into.

@ossobuco,
My scone yesterday was good. But it probably had a little more sugar than the usual. I like the flaky consistency. It was good with coffee. Cakes, biscuits, cookies, whatever, I don't care what they're called. If they taste good to me, that's all.

Vonny, those Eggs Benedict were good. Wassau made them yesterday for me before I left. I'm sure he could whip up more if you like.

@ossobuco,
I recall a scone that was sold by a bakery in Sacramento. It had all sorts of fruits in it and wasnt so damn dry and mealy like most scones Ive had.

@farmerman,
Scones should always be eaten fresh. If they're eaten the same day they're made, they're lovely, but they go stale very quickly. Commercially available scones are packed with preservative and taste terrible.

I like cheese scones.

@farmerman,
A cannoli can be good too; a bit too sweet and gooey for me though. It's the dry flakiness of a scone that I like. I like really flaky biscuits (American) too. I think they go perfectly with coffee. Yum. Wassau? Where are the pastries this morning? I need one to go with my paper.

Lola takes up her newspaper, sits down on the sofa and enjoys the warm fire.

@izzythepush,
Yes, issy, scones should be fresh when consumed. That's the advantage of the Cafe and our good friend Wassau. Everything he prepares is fresh. Isn't the cafe a wonderful place?

@izzythepush,
AS many times Ive ha an afternoon tea in one of the British or Irish hotels, IVe never ever tasted a fresh scone except at the Dublin House in town, but they had this "Baking powder" aftertaste that reminded me oif fresh biscuits (another of my preferences for pigeon food).

I think its the baking powder aftertaste that I find most disagreeable.

ARE THEY PRONOUNCED

or
2. SKOWNE?
