@Lola,
Thats why they rely upon divine intervention.

Imagine Cardinal Bevalaqua delivering a slider over the plate.

Good points all . . . a long fly ball to center field easily becomes a home run!

@Setanta,
The news coverage is hilarious. Republican Senator from Idaho, Jim Risch says that the press is making the conclave seem like a political battle, he says these cardinals aren't interested in that. They just want to pray and find the right man for the job.....right there's no politics in the Catholic Church.

On Alex Wagner NOW:
Chris Mathews says that they want to go back to the Bing Crosby type Pope. "A regular happy, normal guy who is willing to give up sex." That's what they're looking for. They're hoping to have no more scandal; to let some fresh air in.

(someone off screen) says it's a mix of Downton Abbey and the NFL draft pick. HA!

But finally all discussants agree that the new Pope needs to be someone who will clean up the moral and fiscal corruption. Boy, that'll be the day.

A warm hello to Herself from me too, McTag. I hope she makes it through the tunnel to Holland. Bad weather days are better for staying home and drinking tea and coffee.

Yes, fm. The mix of gun hoarding and paranoia is the problem. Members of neither category are known for their willingness to seek psychotherapy.

as undignified as having your trousers fall down whilst addressing the Ladies' Sewing Circle on the subject of Sexual Innuendo in the Works of Jane Austen (that lecture packs 'em in).

Are there still sewing circles? I haven't heard of one for decades. But lectures on sexual innuendo in the works of Jane Austen sounds interesting. I recently watched an old version of Mansfield Park. It was entertaining. There was plenty of sexual innuendo in that work. You would have gone crazy along with the sewing circle ladies.

Oh that's what he is doing. See, Jesus approves guns! Now that explains the bible belt and generally some of those places down under.

I think that's a thumbs up. But that's not Jesus. This guy doesn't have blond hair and blue eyes. So he's a fake.

News Flash. The smoke is black. So that's a nope. Too many novice Cardinals, they say.

@Lola,
Very funny, Lola.

I happen to be a fan of ceremony and pageantry. I love when the royal family does one of their shindigs...so I can watch what goes on. I like costume and period movies and plays for the same reason.

Watching all the pageantry involved in the Cardinals entering Conclave was very compelling for me. I ate it up. The Sistine Chapel and its entryway were captivating.

I know some people absolutely deplore that kind of thing...and I understand.

@Frank Apisa,
I've been to the sistine (that sixtus - from the della Rovere family - was a kick, er, scalywag) chapel once, getting there using a tight stairway that even in March was incredibly stuffy, hard to breathe in.

Presumably the cardinals will be more comfortably cosseted.

I'm rooting for the bicycle riding cardinal Tagle from the Philippines.

I don't deplore ceremony and pageantry. But I must admit, they are not among my favorite things. The chapel and costumes are beautiful, in a uniform and red and golden sort of way. But, I will be willing to give the story up when it's done. I'm glad you like it Frank. And I know there are many others that do. I know because I can see them in the throng outside the chapel with their umbrellas, in the rain, waiting for the smoke. Interesting.

@ossobuco,
I've never been to see the Sistene Chapel. I didn't make it to Rome. I was fighting with my husband and tired of the insane traffic so we headed for Switzerland. Oh well. I saw a very nice bed and breakfast in Como.
