@Lola,
I'll have a pint of Convent Well, Washup, and tighten the nozzle up to get a good froth on it.

I know, I'll get an argument on this. But I find that the people who want to argue the opposite are usually Fundamentalist Christians.

Aaaahh!! That's perfect. Right then.

The problem with that Lola is what you mean by a Fundamentalist Christian. There are atheist fundamentalist Christians. They view the visible activities of the Church, whether sublime or disgraceful, with a degree of sang-froid[/i but feel that on the whole it is a source for good and possibly our only protection from a source of bad. It is a telling point that those who seek to undermine the Church are very reluctant to spell out how they would prevent the bad themselves. Those who wrote the Constitution were mainly exercised to prevent the bad, which they saw as a king or a dictator or anarchy, and they were basically amateurs when compared to hundreds of years of theology starting from the point where the bad was up front and in your face.

Not unlike drawing up NFL rules on a sheet of paper when a naturally evolved football had existed for centuries. America was once a blank sheet of paper. And from a global point of view NFL is provincial.

Same again Washup. A cube of ice this time.

If you don't see any zeroes by Spendi's name, Lola, it's because I automatically click a 'thumbs up' whenever I see a zero or a negative number next to a person's post, not just Spendi's either. Some people will actually give a poster a 'thumbs down' just because they don't like the person; it has nothing to do with the content of the post.

I'm still thinking about umbrellas . . . and parasols. Both of those words mean to protect one from the sun.

Not really. Umbrella is to provide shade, parasol is for the sun.

@Lustig Andrei,
What's the difference between shade and protection from the sun? Both words appear to have roots in the sun or its light.

@georgeob1,
I'm speaking only of the etymology. "Umbra" (whence umbrella) means shade. "Sol" (whence parasol) means sun.

@Setanta,
Some women here in abq do use umbrellas re the hot sun.

I don't think of that as nits - but doing that is not my way. Maybe, though, it is smart.

I don't like umbrellas myself as I see them having a very small window of usefulness, and I threw mine out when I moved from a very rain and drizzled place, where I didn't actually use them.

C'mon Set, you have picked a few equivalent ones yourself. So have I. Andrew was right about umbra and the shade.

It is. But it's not the only motivator. I think it's not asking too much of my fellow man to look beyond themselves, especially when the looker has a lot more than the other. A good enough early childhood environment, enough money and a good education are all assets that can be used for the benefit of mankind.

What has been done to keep a coffee supply available in times of stress.

There is a bunker deep beneath the Cafe, fully stocked with coffee in case of nuclear attack. There's also a big marble Jacuzzi tub, with the capacity to furnish enough hot water for endless baths. Never fear, Wassau is here.

BTW, Lola, you didn't comment about my post concerning the debt the immoral woman owes to the Church for creating so many moral women.

I'm sorry Spendi, I didn't mean to ignore this. Fact is, I don't agree with it. There are plenty of good neurotic reasons why some ladies are more tediously moral than others. The church is not necessary to accomplish it. Although, the church is always there trying to take the credit. I've always wanted to write a book, "Guilt Without Sex." But I fear it would not sell well. It's a way of life for so many. Pity.

Welcome fm. Sorry the place is so crowded. But we're all glad to see you. Are you back out with the little lambs again tonight? Never mind about the mistakes, we can get it. I mean, if we can get what Spendi means, we can get anything. And we can get what Spendi means.

Good idea. I'll do that too.

That's my problem. I have too many nits to pick. But you should all see the really nice umbrellas or parasols Bernie and I sold. They light up a cloudy day and provide shade when it's needed.

Sybil signs as she sweeps the last crumbs from underneath the tables in the corner and wipes the counter top in the bar. The place is quiet for a few minutes this time of night. Wassau's asleep upstairs and Lola has crossed the street to her small third floor walk up efficiency. Her light is still on, but Sybil knows she'll be asleep soon.

It's strange how the cafe takes on a different character when it's empty and still.
Sybil puts another log on the fire and sits down on the Sofa, taking up her book. She sips her coffee and reads. The late night and early morning customers will be here soon enough.

Is this a glass-half-empty question?

@georgeob1,
So you, along with MA, are claiming then, that a parasol does not provide shade? You guys are full of horsie poop.

By the way, O'George, this is not the kind of thread in which people need to fling personal slurs at the other participants. If you've got nothing better to do, then don't address me at all.

Fman walks in (Honest to goodnes I never refer to myself in the third person except here on A2K,Its an affectation that is rather creepy), off the street furling his Rockland bumbershoot. It is still raining a bit yet, but the moderating temperature is a nice promise of an early spring.
