Nice and peaceful in here lately ... such a pleasure to drop in when it's like this.

I agree. It's so much easier to have a nice chat and catch up with each other.

The aroma of the bacon on your panini is tempting. I think I'll have a bacon and mushroom and spinach quiche with a small side salad.

How's the healing from your surgery going, vonny?

Slowly. Guess it's a matter of being patient now! Headaches all the time - any suggestions for a nice soothing drink that might calm it - an infusion of camomile perhaps?

@firefly,
That reminds me, I could try eating those mushrooms I pickled a couple of weeks ago and see if I like them..

That quiche looks great. I make ricotta/egg/other stuff tarts (olive oil crust, pie plate) often - well, every three or four weeks. And a favorite dish is baked eggs - originally I nabbed that as an asian recipe, but you can put almost any damned thing it it, just an easy peasy custard. (Your can tell I'm hungry). But haven't baked a quiche as such in a long time.

As soon as I take the doggy cookies out of the oven, I'm gonna make some lemon curd for the first time. Wish me luck... if it can be ruined, I'll find a way.

I met Diane and her visiting son for donuts and coffee today (no cronuts, alas). I've met her son a few times before, like him. Interesting guy, smart like his mother.

Wish you could talk, or talk more, with your (blankety blank unhelpful) md's office.

@ossobuco,
Your oven seems permanently to be baking doggy cookies! Lucky Katy!

Doctor's appointment - just to talk - Question Rolling Eyes Lucky if one gets more than 10 minutes maximum for a consultation nowadays. But I see my surgeon mid-July, so just need to hang on until then.

Haggis, that rare delicacy that even Scotsmen eat only once a year?

Any on the menu here?

Wassau's doubtless working on perfecting a new recipe right now! Hope you like it with neeps and tatties!

You make me want to swear, and not at you, Vonny.
I'm well aware of the many many ways our med care here sucks to high heaven but not being able to know the path result or ask about your headaches?

@spendius,
The left overs are best on the day after if you fry them in hot Virgin Olive Oil.

@spendius,

Yes. What the English call swedes, we call turnips.

Very nice to eat when fresh, but the supermarkets tend to wrap them in plastic and keep them a long time before sale, which does not improve them at all.

A very nice variation is to mash them 50/50 with carrots.

Yes. I have had that delicacy about twice a week for so many decades I hardly dare think of them. Cabbage is very nice too. Have you tried that?

What dimwit invented artichokes and broccoli. I bet they worked on the Grauniad Style page.

Honestly, I don't understand why anyone should be made to wait for a biopsy report--particularly made to wait that long. I really wouldn't put up with that, it's needlessly anxiety-provoking. I'd probably be calling the doctor's office and driving them nuts, or just showing up in the office, until they gave me the results. Do you really think the doctor would put up with waiting that long for the results of his/her own biopsy?

You're much more patient about it than I would be, vonny.

Has the scarring improved any, appearance wise?

Are the headaches connected, in any way, to the surgery? Are you sleeping in a different position, because of the surgery--that could affect your cervical spine and cause headaches.

Osso is making me feel guilty I'm not baking doggy cookies for my puppy. I am about to give him a big treat though--his first taste of chicken liver and chicken. The liver is ready and just needs to cool off and the chicken comes out of the oven in an hour. I think he'll love it, but I'm only going to give him small amounts today because he's only been on puppy food and I don't want to upset his tummy.

Those Neeps and Tatties sound good.

@firefly,
No guilt, my lady, I do it because I can, re time and kitchen access, and because I can't afford dog biscuits I might choose at doggie emporia. It's true I'm presently reimbursed by Katy's trust, but I have to have the dollars in the first place.

But man o'man, she really likes those mint-oatmeal-parsley goodies.

Liver.. I should probably try that. Thanks for the clue.

@firefly,
You have to pay for your biopsy, we don't. When you have Universal Health Care you accept things might not be so quick. It's a different mindset.
