@FOUND SOUL,
Have you asked Setanta's permission to call him Set? He gave me a very pompous bollocking for that and I was only trying to be friendly.

If he allows you use the familiar term I can only assume he thinks you are harmless.

I'll have to go though. Somebody has put the Beach Boys on. I can't abide listening to that stuff.

You don't have to go., spendi That's why we equipped your special curmudgeon chair with noise-canceling headphones in the side-pocket. Just slip them on and you can either listen to music of your choice, or just block out what you don't want to hear.

Or take vonny up on her offer, and sit next to her at the window. It's a nice quiet spot to enjoy some tea and Wassau's latest batch of cookies.

@spendius,
I am retiring for my usual 10 hours in the charp pit shortly so I thought I would let the coffee shop clientele consider, in view of the tempting dishes being paraded before our eyes, the following quote from Jane Austen--

Quote:
"he was a short-necked apoplectic sort of fellow, and plied well with good things, would soon pop off."

We do have wonderful American cuisine and we do have women who prepare it living longer that men and we do have cruise ships filled with American widows having a last fling with the money the poor sap made.

@firefly,
I'm coming in a happy sailor.Today Ive been able to rent a fairly nice boat for the entire summer(rent and insurance , I may be ableto buy it later). The owner has financial concerns and needs
ready cash .
OOOOH I remember when I turned my boat over for the money so I could afford some new equipment. Now, after all the work and time , I want a boat back. its a Maine thing, you wont understand if yave not got the need for the sea.

YAAAAR.

@spendius,
BTW, what is a "charp pit"? I tried looking it up and only found ads for pitbulls.
Vicious snarling pitbulls.

@farmerman,
I am so happy you've found a boat. I don't really know about sailing but I understand passion.

Joe(well done, FM)Nation

PS: I watched the video. I don't give a **** if there are a hundred errors in it, it's about working people doing what they do.
PPS: There is not a single son-of-a-bitch who can karaoke that song. It's got a range and an octave leap that will kill anybody trying to belt it out.

@farmerman,
What size is she? Can you take her through the Panama Canal (or around the Horn) and sail half way across the Pacific to come and visit the Sandwich Isles?

@farmerman,
I'm so happy for you, farmerman. Enjoy your boat!

I love the salt air and being on the sea, although I'm not much of a sailor at all. Maybe when the weather warms up you'll invite some of us out on the boat for a day. That would get us landlubbers off our couches.

Couldn't find the visual mistakes in the video, I think I was too busy wiping the sea spray out of my eyes.

Now I'm craving seafood. Wassau, could you please come over here....

Maybe spendius meant Shar Pei--cute wrinkly pups.

They kind of fit the persona of a bored curmudgeon.

The sheer gratuitousness of it. The Spockism. Smoking. Throwing a fish back that might be sold. The bloody awful song.

You should be able to work it out from the context.

@izzythepush,
fm gets up at 5 am izzy. He doesn't do festering. He's more into the infliction of pain on the self.

It's an American custom to welcome both pecuniary and physical damage as marks of excellence. Boats are perfect for the job. Taking a dump over the taffrail with a keen, sleet-laden arctic gale following must be his idea of heaven.

I'm a tight-fisted softee baby. Tender mothering is my bag.
