@ossobuco,

I take a great brand of canned mackerel, Geisha*, lately the one with tomato chili sauce, separate the mackerel and put it in with my mashed potatoes, with a pastry cutter thingy. Salmon works, as do tinned sardines. I suppose tuna would too.
I add two whisked large eggs, mush it up. If I'm light of cooked potatoes, I add bread crumbs. Usually I add the Geisha tomato sauce or sometimes I use a spicy adobo sauce of my own. I like garlic, so some of that. No salt since there is overplenty in the tinned stuff. Yes, I add herbs - I've a battery of them and play. When the consistency is not very wet, I squish a handful and smack it into a patty and then acquaint it with a cornmeal coat. Saute in canola, distribute on rack or over paper towels, cool. Put in tin foil, freeze. Microwave and serve with condiment of your choice.

Your tent or mine?

Thanks for ordering the hot chocolate, ehBeth! Just the thing for a day like today! Anyone want to join me? Wassau's prepared enough for a crowd...

Silver Shred, hmm? Never seen it. I wonder if I could get it here? Lemon marmalade sounds yummy!

Weather here is in the 40s-50s today, gray and rainy. Perfect nap weather. This virtual cafe is the closest I care to get to that much snow. Makes me anxious, just looking at the pictures. I feel sorry for those of you who are having to deal with it. Come have some hot chocolate.

@Eva,
Hot chocolate, eh? By a strange coincidence, here's a quote from today's newspaper:

"Chemically speaking, chocolate really is the world's perfect food." Thus sayeth Michael Levine.

@farmerman,
Does the Washington Post run more ads than other similar publications for professionals interested in higher education programs, professional training courses, test preparation materials and other services for various levels of education?

@Eva,
I have spare chocolate bars from yesterday. Lindt dark chocolate on its own and also with intense orange and intense passion fruit.

@dlowan,
That must mean that you either made yourself sick with chocolate yesterday or have an uncommon aptitude for self control.

@Lustig Andrei,
hmmm, I'll check that out. I used to subscribe (in Los Angeles yet) but that was back in the later eighties and I forget re the puzzle. Am an olden nyt and lat crossword worker, but I don't like online formats I've seen, back when I looked them up. So I have been crossword free for about fifteen years. That's just what I need, a new hobby.....

@Berty McJock,
On horse meat, I saw it on the menu on a couple of remarked about good restaurants I went to in northern italy in '99. My last splurge as it happens, but very memorable and worth it. I usually went to trattorias and ordered little and well, but once in a while I waltzed into a serious restaurant. Most of the days, I ate from a local alimentaria or a pasticceria.. The time I'm remembering was in Lucca, afternoon, but there was another in Cremona. Woman dining alone, quiet room.

Ordering obviously too little, like a fly on the tablecloth.
People confused me since I always wore my black (washable) suit and they guessed me to be portuguese or german, until I spoke, clumbsiola.

I don't remember what I ordered, probably an appetizer and a dessert, glass of wine.

I shoulda ordered the horse, but I wasn't in the mood.
