How typical, that scenario. I don't mean for that hospital, but for a range of them.

Well. And how are things today? I saw a video clip on my computer (BBC website- very good) showing blizzards on the eastern seaboard of the US and it looks very bad, with more snow to come.
Our climate is more temperate, with only some frost here this morning.
The house was cold when I got up, as we don't have the heating on too early (it can make the bedroom uncomfortably warm) and since I am on the Gi diet now I feel the cold rather acutely! Have lost eight pounds now BTW, only about another twenty to go.

tell more about this diet, I feel the cold very acutely so have just eaten a modest pasta dish - but have cut out milk in the past fortnight and feel better for it, no heartburn and that bloated feeling (nothing more bloating than French milky coffee + fresh baguette, butter and jam - but how delicious)

I seem to be in southern Portugal so hereby resume the travel diary. This is a perfect place for February, fairly empty of tourists, a sprinkling of Brits, Dutch and Americans, but great deals in hotels. I looked at the weather forecast for britain last Thurs and thought NO, so got on a plane Friday for Faro, now staying with my iceblue hire car in Praia da Rocha, Portimao. Have some people to see about being agents for students for my school, so it counts as a business trip, just. Warm enough to sunbathe on sheltered balcony, but that northerly wind is here too and you need a jacket to go out, esp at night. Portuguese is a pig of language to understand when spoken, sounds pretty drunk and disorderly to me! They had elections yesterday and exchanged centre right for centre left. Nobody's ecstatic, just saying it was time for a change...

Where are all Clary's fans, the posse?

I envy you the balmy spring-like weather you described, there among the samosas, Clary.

Snow fell here today, and more is forecast. Chilly brrrr.

Hey, Francis, you found me (good little dog!)
Hating Spain though, I decided to drive to Sp because I speak more Spanish than Portuguese, not hard - got completely snarled up in Seville traffic, during which someone cut in so sharply that I braked and a bottle of old Dao wine I had on the back seat broke, soaking the floor of the hire car. Then the bank wouldn´t honour my bank card, and I hadn´t got enough euros to take the autostrada to Jerez, so went the scenic (NOT) route. I put out to the universe the ideal hotel, taking Visa, with parking, easy to find... well, it does take Visa, the parking is in a completely lightless subterranean vault with minuscule bays to park in (and I am a BAD parker, being a woman), and it took me 20 min of circulating aimlesslyto find a hotel anyway. Now I´m starving but they don´t eat till 10 or so, it´s only 7, what shall I do___????

Thanks for letting me let off steam. Having no travelling companion is hard sometimes, it helps complain here!

Actually the sunset from the Alcazar was lovely. And the hotel is cheap and clean and quiet.

Such a pity to loose that good Dão wine!
Have a good time in Sevilla! Hasta luego.

Home again to snow, freezing house - but I do have a white stripe where my watch was, so the sunshine in Portugal has been of use!

Wasn't it too cold, just wearing a watch? And no guardian of public morals was objecting this?
