Yes, that's the problem in south Asia now. If they only had drinkable water, much of the anticipated deaths from illness could be prevented. It IS almost unimaginably sad.

The east coast of Thailand was unaffected, so go there if zou like , and thez reckon the hotels will be reconstructed pretty quickly. Maybe choose a hotel on high ground? Sri Lanka, I don't know that coast, but Kandy in the hills is a good place to visit, tea plantations etc

I am in a smart Swiss ski resort suddenly (son's friends) and have breathtaking snowy mountain views. But the prices beat everything e g 12 Swiss francs for an hour of internet, 11 for a ride on the funicular from the station, 10 for a drink...
Conspicuous spending in the time of disaster . we can flip from one mode to the other so fast nowadays.

The resort is called Montana if zou are interested.

Hey, Olga, my cold is better thanks and I'm staying with an old friend and Reiki master, who has just put a cup of herbal tea in front of me as I sit at her computer overlooking Lake Lucerne, which has turned a dull gold in the evening light. What a beautiful setting to recuperate! Lucerne (or Luzern) is a lovely town, elegant, easy to negotiate, not too large but big enough to have excellent shops and facitlities.

The Economist magazine had a year-end survey of 'livable' countries. Ireland came first and Switzerland second.

Well Clary you certainly get around.
If it's Monday it must be Switzerland. Our pathetic snowfall lasted about 30 hours.
It's easier for us europeans............the americans can travel for days and still be in America.

I never know when to use a capital letter, it's a blind spot I think.

Enjoy Loo-soine...I would, you lucky thing....a Reiki master with herbal tea to look after you sounds just divine.....what's that anyway, is it anything like the "dreaded art of origami"?

Divine and very healthy. I hope she can work some Reiki magic on you, Clary.

Reiki is a strange thing, McTag, but not at all like origami. More like... no, not like that... uhhh... sort of... no. Hmmm. Call it a non-touching healing touch, but ya gotta be there, I think.

Piffka, a patient of a Reiki therapist told me that he hurt her so well. Could it be that....? Nah.

Happy New Year, Margo! How was your Mango Chutney this year? Very Happy

OK. I have a story about Reiki... one of my internet friends is both a D.O. and a Reiki Master. We were together once a couple of years ago (a get-together in NY) & I was complaining about my stomach-ache. She offered to give me a treatment which I gladly accepted. We were both concentrating on my stomach BUT suddenly there was a massive (the only thing I can call it is a) field of energy that started quickly encircling my left leg, around and around -- it felt like light electrical impulses and were so vivid I was surprised I couldn't see light flashes. It wasn't until later, as I told her what happened that we realized... duh... that was where I had ruptured my Achilles tendon. It had happened about ten years ago and been surgically put back together. I wasn't thinking of it, she didn't even know about it... but the Reiki energy went right to the point. (My stomach-ache went away, too.) It was really shocking.

You'd think I'd go to Reiki folks all the time, but that was my only experience.

Ah, that sounds better, Clare! Very Happy
I'm very pleased & relieved that you have found such a haven in which to recuperate. Rest, sleep a lot & regain your strength. You have been through a lot. Sounds like the right place to do it!

Love,
Olga

Hi there folks! Great that someone else is explaining or demonstrating Reiki to the unitiated... it is magic, really. We had a wonderful drive from Lucerne to Zug to Einsiedelns with stop for local speciality lunch and snow viewing. My what a beautiful country - and so typical all just like it should be, blue and white and silver...
Glad Britain had a tiny bit of white Christmas...

And today, like yesterday, the sun shines over the lake and the sky is blue. Apparently this is unusual for midwinter so I am lucky.

G'day Piffka and Happy New Year to you and the family.

Mango chutney is fine - 2 batches as usual - one hot (but not toooo hot) and one warmish.

I've been too slack to send my overseas batches yet - but should get a wriggle on. You didn't send an emissary this year!

Still luscious mangoes around - but the main season has almost finished Sad

No - she didn't get it and she said the interview was quite bizarre - she was interviewed by what appeared to be a bunch of gp's for a specialist academic physician position, the type of position she already occupies at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, which is a tad more prestigious. She felt they had a preferred candidate already - but had to be seen to interview her because she fulfilled all their criteria for the position.

Oh, well! It means no cheap holidays in the south of England.Sad
