As some of you wordgames addicts know, I am about to travel to the Far East (from England) for a work+pleasure trip. This is my diary, for those who wish to travel vicariously!
First posting:
Tomorrow I fly; today the post arrived without my tickets. No answer when I tried to phone the company. I didn't panic, just tried to work out how to turn off the hot water system so that it could be turned on again easily (no mean feat). Then there was the classic ratatat-tat on my garden door and I found a courier standing there mopping his brow, with my tickets, complaining that there is no map which has our address on it. It's quite true: the Post Office calls us Rampart Walk, and the mapmakers Guildhall Yard.
But it is a beautiful day and the bluebells and other starlike blue flowers are out in the garden - why am I leaving all this???? For 36 degrees C?
Are you taking a good book for the plane ride?
Well, either that or a diazepam! Actually, it's a night flight, and they put 4 movies on, so maybe I won't need to read. I'm taking the Philip Pullman trilogy of sophisticated teen science fantasy actually, hoping to drop off each one as I read them - books are so heavy!
Are you bringing a laptop?
I'm looking forward to hearing all about your trip, Clary. I can imagine how excited you must be.
Clary
Give us a bit of an idea about your itinerary!
I'm looking for somewhere to go towards mid-year. Have points, may as well travel!
Although you know I just hate to get on one of those big jets and go somewhere interesting!
I look forward to your next instalment, Clary. Have a fantabulous time!!!!
Where'd she go? Anyone know where in the far east she went?
littlek
She has work-related business in Hong Kong & has a friend in Asia who'd like to travel.
The tension level on this thread is almost unbearable.
Didn't Clary say she was going to be spending a month in Cambodia?
If so, I would like to offer the following recitation...
When broken glass floats, a nation drowns,
Descending to the abyss.
From mass graves in the once-gentle land,
Their blood seeps into mother earth.
Their suffering spirits whisper to her,
"Why has this happened?"
Their voice resounds in the spirit world,
Shouts though the souls of survivors,
Determined to connect, begging the world:
Please remember us.
Please speak for us.
Please bring us justice.
So, Clary, heed those words while in Cambodia. If, however, Cambodia is not on your itinerary, please dismiss the aforementioned and carry on with your business.
And by all means, have an enjoyable trip.
We are with you in spirit.
Clary is a serious person with an ability on top of that to palaver like the rest of us, and I'd be really interested in her time in Cambodia. Not that you wouldn't.
I still don't know if we will hear from her soon or in a month, whine.

*LOL* I'm gonna use that the next time I need to come up with a user name!
I shall be checkin' back in here to see how the trip goes and what interesting tales Clary posts!
Will miss you clary...look forward to living vicariously through your exploits!
Hey Clazza, just seen this, Bon Voyage!
And I hope you can find a computer with Internet soon. I 'spect they've got these abroad.

Enjoy, Clary!
Hi all,
MsOlga and I received an email from Clary this morning, who asked that we add this here. I'm sure she's hoping she'll be able to connect eventually, but I'm (and I'm sure MsOlga is, too!) happy to be the go-between. She arrived safely and that's the main thing!

Quote:To my horror I was unable to access A2K from this Internet cafe, so here is a brief account of my arrival, and I'd be grateful if one of you could post it on my Clary's Travel Digression thread!!
Long flight in premier class - more legroom than economy and your own console but nothing like the luxury of Virgin with hundreds of channels, games etc. Satnext to a Taiwanese girl studying stage design in London who was going on to Taipei - a 16 hour trip.
The so called Airport Hotel is a good few miles down a searing main road and is the usual concrete block with marble. Going to bed now!
Thank you, Piffka, for the update.
And thank you to Clary for letting us travel vicariously with her. Bon Voyage!
