You have won a competition to redesign "God".
What characteristics should this entity possess and what actions would you like to see carried out.
This isn't as easy as it looks considering we already invented one and look what we've done with him!
He's gotta be multipersonalitied to death by now.
Right, so i'm thinking, get rid of all the negative aspect such as vengeful, jealous, god wiping people out in floods, all that judgmental stuff, etc.
But then, ah, i want to get rid of all the dangerous nutbars.
Well there you have it. I can't have both.
Gave him a split personality already.
I think he's just fine the way he is.
She should possess wisdom, kindness, and the ability to do whatever needed to be done. She should be able to read minds and hearts and have the emotional maturity to love all beings regardless of whether they deserved it or loved her back. She should be intelligent, creative, honest, open, and fair. She should be willing and able to communicate directly to all beings. She should have a good sense of humor.
In other words, she should be a mother.
I would like her to fix all of the design flaws in human beings so that every person would have a fully functioning brain and body, raise the average IQ by at least 20 points, eliminate parasites and disease causing organisms, send an equitable amount of rainfall to every country (no droughts, no floods), avert hurricanes and natural disasters, provide a guardian angel/guiding spirit to each person, and reduce testosterone levels so that men would not have the urge to start wars and assault women and children.
It would also be great if she could bless us with perfect health over a long and happy lifetime, extrasensory powers, the ability to travel instantly through time and space and to recognize Truth when we see it.
Any idea how we could post an advertisement for a new deity with these qualifications?
You can't raise the average IQ, since IQ's are designed based on an average.

None! God is not needed. The planet's occupants should take responsibility for their lives, not thanking God nor blaming God for anything.

truth
I'm with Bumblebeeboogie.
BumbleBee and JL, we may not need a god, but it would be nice to have one.
I think I'd make him a lot like Superman.
It would be cool if he (or she) made all people with a special gauge. At a certain point of zealotry, they would just burst into flames right on the spot. Yeah, that would be cool.
My preferred god would be able to answer the mysteries of life (e.g. how we came about) and would provide me with immortality and a pleasant place to go to after I die (the peeps I like should be able to hook up with me).
This god would also like and dislike the same things I like and dislike and the things I really dislike should be an abomination. This way when I have kids the god will help me control their behavior.
This god should let me claim he protects me and is always on my side in a fight.
And lastly, the god should be anthropomorphic in nature, with many human traits so that we humans can relate to him and understand him (even if we know that we can never truely understand Dwarfy).
Again with Dwarfy? How is that cult coming along, anyway?
This god should make us all female, and attracted to each other. That would end a lot of contrversy.
SCoates' god is getting me hot.
And that God should be female, and dwell among us, and have slaves.
One good thing about all being the same gender is that we wouldn't have to wear clothes. I hate when it's a really hot day, and I have to wear clothes. It is anti-productive.
Excellent! Now why didn't I think of that?

But every now & then it's kinda nice to think that something better than mere humans exists
..... My god would be a cross between a socialist & a buddhist, & probably female .... She would have compassion & a sense of humour & it would be enlightening & fun to be a follower.

You can raise average IQ scores relative to
established norms, as in "IQ scores in the world's developed countries--especially scores related to mazes and puzzles--have risen dramatically since the introduction of IQ tests early in the century. Scores in the United States have risen an average of 24 points since 1918, scores in Britain have climbed 27 points since 1942, and comparable figures have been reported throughout Western Europe, as well in Canada, Japan, Israel, Australia, and other parts of the developed world." (Flynn effect)
But the suggestion was to raise EVERYONE's IQ by 20 points, so there would be nothing else to base the numbers on, except for keeping 100 as the average. You can raise everyone's intelligence, but you can't raise everyone's IQ.
