watersquirt is at it again! He's putting up pictures where women are afraid Obama will take away their rights to own guns.

Too stupid to even consider, but leave it to watersquirt and his total ignorance - on any topic.

@H2O MAN,
Guns rights and the second amendment is clearly a very secondary issue to you H2O and you are clearly doing far more harm then good in that regards so I think I am just going to placed you on ignore.

God save us from the people on our side of an issue at least in this case.

Some people are simply not psychologically or temperamentally suited to owning guns. That is where I would like to see some restrictions.

Some of the posts in this thread reinforce my feelings in that regard.

An yet I would bet that even our very outspoken friend H2O have no criminal record of any kind along with most of the NRA membership so it is more the case of you wishing to disarmed people you do not agree with then it is a matter of public safety.

I AM interested in banning people with criminal records from owning guns, but I am also interested in banning people who are not psychologically or temperamentally unsuited for gun ownership.

I has nothing to do with whether or not I agree with them.

Nonsense as the label of being unstable or temperamentally unsuited for gun ownership is so vague that whoever is given the power to label people such can do so at their whim and it would just be a way for whoever is in power at the moment to disarms those that do not support them.

A list of no gun ownership similar to the no fly list where you would have no idea of how the hell you got on the list and have no rights to challenge you being on such a list in a court of law.

There is also a long and very dishonorable history of governments in the last hundred years or so using claimed mental health issues to locked up and drug political dissidents and your idea of granting the government the power to label people unstable and unfit to be gun owners sound like just a weaker version of the same thing.

@BillRM,
I agree; it's impossible to predict who will use a gun to kill somebody.

I didn't say it would be easy...and I didn't say I ever expected it to happen.

I merely expressed what I would want.

And I repeat...there are regular posters here in this forum who advocate for gun rights...who, IN MY OPINION, are not psychologically or temperamentally suitable for gun ownership.

My guess is they will keep their rights to own guns; our country will continue to be one of he most violent societies on the planet; and nut cases will occasionally kill a bunch of people just for the fun of it.

As I mentioned earlier...our best bet is to simply treat these tragedies as natural disasters...albeit of our own making.

Our murder rate is once more at a fifty years low and damn near a hundred years low next if you wish to reduce the rate even further with special note of young black males pumping in money to address the poverty and lack of a future for that subgroup and stop funding the drug gangs by ending the so call war on drugs and of course more funds for mental health programs.

As far as mass shootings/murder that peak in 1928 or so even if you would never know it by the news media.

Agreed, but there are usually red flags that precede the event.
Learning to recognize these red flags and react to them appropriately is a step in the right direction.
