@BillRM,
Only if the question is put to the gun owner which congress and its nra members refuse to do. Any idiot with the price of a gun can purchase one.

The only thing in the government power is to interfere with the ability to purchase guns legally not illegally anymore then the billions dollars spend a year and fulling the prisons up with hundreds of thousands of people involved in the drug trade had kept one person from buying street drugs who wish to do so.

The government and it laws does not have magical powers of any kind and any anti gun law will not disarmed the criminals but will interfere with anyone who is respectful to those laws only and turn otherwise law abiding citizens into criminals as did prohibition in the 1930s and the current drugs laws does now for that matter.

Oh and also pump tens of billions of dollars a year more into criminal enterprises and gangs that will come into being to meet the demand for firearms that can no longer be purchase legally.

Some people are simply not psychologically or temperamentally suited to owning guns. That is where I would like to see some restrictions.

Some of the posts in this thread reinforce my feelings in that regard.

An yet I would bet that even our very outspoken friend H2O have no criminal record of any kind along with most of the NRA membership so it is more the case of you wishing to disarmed people you do not agree with then it is a matter of public safety.

Maybe that's why Obama wanted to be president... he sure loves killing humans with his drones.

All that firepower at his fingertips and nobody thought to run a global background check on Barack.

Maybe we should have the same standard for gun ownership, Spurt.
You have to get 50% of a national vote before you can own a gun.

Yes it is a shame that we have the constitution that does not allow 51 percents of the people to take away constitutional rights from the other 49 percents.

That would be the same Constitution that Spurt is whining about not doing a background check on an elected President.

Requiring a majority to vote for someone when a billion dollars is spent against them is a higher standard than a background check in my world.

It's a great thing that we Americans don't live in a 'mob rule' democracy.

@parados,
Take note that Obama is a two terms president inspite of the funds spends and lies told to make it otherwise and it was not even a near thing.

No where near for example Bush2 getting us involved in a completely unneeded war that cost us dearly in both treasure and blood of our soldiers and last but not least coming within a hair breath of having a rerun of the great depression.

But then Obama is black and a democrat so to people like you he must be a poor president as reality have never been the strong point of the far right.

Rolling Eyes Even though Obama has been in office for more than 48 months, some of the dumbmasses are
so unbelievably freaking dumb that they continue to blame Bush for Obama's many, many failures.

@H2O MAN,
Yes we got out of the great depression that the GOP also got us into within four years of FDR taking over NOT

Of course it did not help that the SC and the Republican control congress at the time kept interfering with pumping enough cash into the economic at the time to dig us out, as once more we have history repeating itself.

Only the flood of government spending during WW2 and leading up to WW2 undid the harm the GOP did to us in the 20s.

@cicerone imposter,
H2O is his own worst enemy along with others like him as if you are not a true believers of all the far right bullshit then they will not make common cause with you over issues such as gun rights that at least some armed democrats agree in and go out of their ways to attack/insult you.

The far right seems more similar to a religion cult then a political movement.
