What a kind of food is Reuben? Why is it rubbery?

@Justin Xu,

And How could the bite remind the author of hippy?

because the meat that is normally found in a Reuben has been replaced by tofu

hippies were famous/infamous for using tofu and other vegetable ingredients to replace meat

@JTT,
I did think it meant the writer flashed on the person (whomever) Ellen, mid chomping into and savoring the sandwich.

Whether I believe it, no, but that is want I think the author meant.

That's not at issue, Osso. The language states that clearly. What we don't know from the language is whether the thought appeared because of a connection to the sandwich. That isn't made specific in the language used.

@tsarstepan,
No kidding. $15.50 for a sandwich, $25.50 for a triple decker.

And it's just meat and bread.
Meh

I had a sandwich in NYC once.
It was marvellous.
It was at the Carnegie Diner, and it was called a Woody Allen.
I would like to go back there to try a corned-beef Reuben.

@Joe Nation,
Joe, I'd love that.

Carnegie Deli, I should have written. Great place, we enjoyed it there.

@McTag,
The Carnegie Deli is, without a doubt, one of the finest sandwich shops in the entire world.

I am willing to believe that. Andrew Carnegie, who was a Scot you know, was responsible for lots of good things.

We had a table which was partly shared by an enormous Samoan guy who I was told was a famous wrestler, often seen on the WWW programmes on TV.
He was a very nice guy, and he took our picture with one of our cameras.
