Let me add this: Some simple disciplines can improve one's written expression. Many people, even those otherwise quite accomplished in written communication, often do not practice them.
Here is one that is really simple and, I believe, really worthwhile: After you have written something, step away from it for a few minutes, and then
re-read it. Chances are you will see problems that you can fix. For me, I find that I can usually
shorten my initial version.
Communicating well is hard work, even though people often behave as though it were something that "comes naturally".
