Hello,

This is an ESL question.

Would you please explain the meaning of the phrase "cut open" in the sentence below?

"The only way to find true happiness is to risk being completely cut open." - Chuck Palahniuk (Invisible Monsters)

It apparently is an idiom. I read this book but can not remember this particular line.

I believe the term means to fully lose one's emotional and social inhibitions. It appears to mean perhaps to take risks and not think about the immediate consequences.
