Barney Frank Seeks Short Stint in Senate

@Ragman,
Governor Patrick needs someone to fill in the departing Senator Kerry for the senate seat in Massachusetts. The theory being that Senator Kerry will be approved as Secretary of State by the senate.
He didn't say he wanted to stay for the Fiscal Cliff fight, he said the fiscal cliff deal now means the next few months are going to be the most important in history. I suppose he means the debt ceiling and those other big deal events everybody is talking about.
Quote:A month ago, or a few weeks ago, I said I wasn’t interested,” Frank said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “It was kind of like you’re about to graduate, and they said: ‘You gotta go to summer school.’ But [the fiscal cliff deal] now means that February, March and April are going to be among the most important months in American financial history.”
He added, “I’ve told the governor I would now like, frankly, to do that [serve as interim senator].”

@tsarstepan,
I think he would be good at it, but if the Dems want to hold that seat they will need a strong contender and giving someone that experience now would strenghten their hand in November. Frank might be the best pick but not the best political move.
@engineer,
He certainly would be an EXCELLENT pick...and I don't think the political cost to the governor would be great.
Go for it, Deval. Appoint him. With any luck he'll get bitten by the political bug again, and run for the office himself, and whomp Scott Brown again.
Some of you morons don't think Frank and Dodd did enough damage to the nation in 08 and want to give Frank another shot at it??
@gungasnake,

It is entirely possible for one to think Frank to be a capable legislator...and a reasonable choice for the seat...without being a moron.
Do you really need to call people who disagree with you on something like this...morons?
@Frank Apisa,
and given gunga's beliefs, it seems a wee bit pot meets kettle
@Frank Apisa,
Gunga's been called a moron enough times...let him get a shot in.
No, it seems a HUGE bit pot meets kettle.
Dodd-Franks was a small start in cleaning up the mess Republican economics left the US and the world in. Now that we've got Elizabeth Warren in, with Barney hopefully backing her up when Kerry goes to State, we can continue and strengthen the cleanup effort and make sure the Republican economic know-nothings will be prohibited from doing it again--as they've already tried to do.
Some MA kpolitical junkies are suggesting Scott Brown might not run for senator again but will instead wait for Patrick to retire and run for governor instead. I'd much rather vote against him for governor than for senator again.
@gungasnake,
Without Chris Dodd having his back, he might be relatively harmless.
@tsarstepan,
I think Barney Frank would make an excellent Senator, and the entire nay Sayers will continue to do their dinosaur routine. Barney was the first out gay man in the House (there were lots of closeted homophobic republicans of course) and is a strong, clear voice for what is decent in this country.
@jcboy,
He was also the first openly gay Congressman running a gay escort service from his residence.
Sounds like a horrible idea, but explains why Barney has forgiven and endorses homophobic Chuck Hagel.
@Cycloptichorn,
Because prostitution is "what's decent in this country."
