Heart Procedure Performed On Wrong Patient In Florida
Hospital Discloses Error In News Release
POSTED: 6:05 pm EST March 11, 2004
SARASOTA, Fla. -- The wrong patient received a heart catheterization at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, officials said Thursday.
The hospital disclosed the error in a news release, and Dr. Duncan Finlay, the hospital's chief executive officer, later told reporters that doctors discovered the mix-up immediately following the Monday procedure, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported.
"The patient had no harm done to them," Finlay said. "But let me emphasize that any mistake of this nature is important to us."
The hospital is not releasing the name of the patient or the doctor due to privacy laws, but Finlay said an investigation is under way.
scary!
It's time to close the hospital and institute a major investigation.
What else has been going on there?
Maybe Steven King should pay the hospital a "visit"!
maybe kingdom hospital is 'loosely based' upon....
Could be! If I were a patient in Kingdom Hospital, I'd avoid the elevators.
Everyday, medical malpractice stories are in the news. If you have any kind of medical procedures planned at a clinic or hospital in the future...it may be a good idea to mark your body in large letters with a magic marker, including your name, age, and instructions on what surgery you are scheduled for.

If you really do this, be sure you're correct in your markings!
