@farmerman,
Let me suggest that Walter buy Hostess Bakery and save Twinkies from going extinct?

@tsarstepan,
that would be in direct contravention to why the EU folks were awarded the Peace Prize (IMHO). Twinkies are WAR FOOD

@farmerman,
If Walter can figure out how Twinkies last for decades then he can win the Nobel Prize for Chemistry.

@farmerman,
I take it that the Nobel Prize now only bears about the same influence as the Blue Ribbon on a Pabst beer.

@Enzo,
It's a bit less than 0.2 Euro cents for each EU-citizen ...

However, the Nobel prize money of 930,000 € ($1.25 million) will be given to projects that help children struggling in war zones, with the recipients to be announced next week. The EU has said it will match the prize money, so that a total of 2 million euros will be given to the selected aid projects.

@Walter Hinteler,
I'm a six year old orphan, and my neighborhood has been considered a war zone.

I'm waiting. . . .

@roger,
I've sent you my 0.2 Euro cents as well as those of the missus. You'll have to pay a small fee of $5.24 for the Western Union transfer though ...

@farmerman,
The smallest coin is 1 cent.
Re your second question: no. (But 'yes', when you look at special, collector 2/5/10 Euro coins, which are mainly [5 and 10: only] printed for collectors but which a 'normal money' as well.)

@Walter Hinteler,
so you dont mint proof or precious metal proof coins?

Ive seen how the US mint and post office create all these "collectible" chochkies (stamps and coins) which, get paid for, and then are stashed away, making the mint and post office a few billion dollars.

Stamps are like a lottery ticket with no prize

"Precious metal" only for those collector coins. I think, when/if you get a very fresh two Euro coin (that's the largest 'normal' coin), it certainly would qualify as "proof".

@farmerman,
Value of Euro-coins:
1 cent = one cent
2 cents = one cent
5 cents = two cents
10 cents = two cents
50 cents = four cents
1 Euro = ten cents
2 Euros = thirteen cents

@Walter Hinteler,
Is there a one or two Euro coin made of gold or silver?

We mint "proof" coins made of the cupro-nickel alloy

We also mint two levels of silver proof coins
We mint a coin silver half anf a coin silver dollar

We also mint a pure silver half and a pure silver dollar coin

We also mint a whole bunch of different "commemorative" coins as silver "dollars" just to make spending money for the mint.
Ive got a whole set of Apollo Commemorative coins my dad bought
