I have been searching for more feedback on forteo. The mice that got tumors were given a much higher strength of medication compared to that of a human. I was given the opportunity to try Forteo last year and chickened out. My bones aren't terrible yet but I don't want to wait till they are. Has anyone tried it that hasn't had a fracture or hasn't reached -2.5 or higher? And one more question....I work out every day and am trying to find some new exercises to strenghten the lower back.

Forteo and back spasms
Question I have been taking Forteo for less than a week. Almost from the first day I have experienced a pulsating pain traveling from my lower spine to the base of my skull when I sit down. This occurs almost immediately after the injection. . If I am stand, I have no problem. The pain stops after about 30 minutes. Is there is anyone else who has expeienced this. Thanks Judy

I have been reading the comments from those of you taking forteo. I am soon to be 51 years old and it has been recommended that I take the injections since my T score in my lower back is -3.4. I have been on actonel for 18 months and my T score improved in my hip but not my back. I am interested in any suggestions concerning exercise. I am a walker..about 3 miles a day 5-7 days a week. Any and all comments are welcome as I would like to know what to expect with forteo. Thanks!

Forteo
I have been on Forteo for 14 months. My doctor will allow me to be on it for a maximum of 18 months (not the 2 yrs recommended.) I have experienced a significant improvement. When I started trying to get the osteoprosis under control about 6 years ago my T score was a -3.5 and got worse by the year. It is now a -1.90. I took Actonel and about 4 other drugs before starting the Forteo. I do think the Actonel helped but not near as much as the Forteo. Forteo is a drug that actually rebuilds new bone. It is my understanding the other drugs just slow down the loss of the bone you already have. I only experience a red patch (reaction) at the site the forteo is injected. It goes away in several hours. It looks like a red welt. It does not itch or bother me in any other way that I know of. My last dexxa scan was about the middle of May 2005. The 36 year old who did the scan told me her scans were worse than mine and mine were greatly imrpoved from the last one in April of 2004. I will be off the drug in September. I am finally winning this battle. I have a genetic predisposition for the disease as my mother had it. I do exercise regularly and do some weight lifitiing with it. I don't know if that helps anyone but you can write me if you want to talk/visit about the Forteo. I don't get to this web page very often. My best wishes for all of you My e-mail address is [email protected]

My doctor has recommended Forteo, but I am concerned about the black box warning. Has anyone heard anything about a new drug called Preous that is expected to be on the market in early 2006?

There are several forteo threads here on a2k already, with many people asking questions and telling of their experience. You might check those threads out by clicking on search, and putting in the word forteo in the window that comes up.

What seems to me in common among the forteo users, is that they hardly ever come back and post on a continuing basis. It would be really useful if they or you would.

(I am not a forteo user myself, have just read some of the threads).

Ok, I clicked on search and found seventeen threads about it.
You might try that - click on Search near the top of the page and put in Forteo in the first blank and then click submit.

@balardjudy,
It's been many years since Judy posted but I found this in a search about Forteo. I, too, get spasms after taking Forteo. My doctor had never heard of it, but suggested I had too much calcium in my body and taking Forteo injected even more, so he said to stop taking calcium pills. That seemed to help for a year but today I injected Forteo and had painful pussating lower back spasms for over 3 minutes. I just laid down, did some lower back stretches and it eventually went away.
