Hello,
Can I rephrase the sentence in the title as follows?:
Ich liebe nicht die Katzen.
I am asking this question because in English both ways are possible:
I don't like cats
I like no cats.

Ich liebe nicht die Katzen would be the more common way of saying it, but your other choice is not grammatically incorrect, just not as frequently used.

Ich mag keine Katzen
