the other day the Ron & Fez Show interviewed the guy who put together the new Stones documentary "Crossfire Hurricane"

afterwards it was discussed if the opening line of "Jumpin' Jack Flash" was the greatest opening line in rock music

I was born, in a cross-fire hurricane
And I howled at my ma in the driving rain

what say you

@dlowan,
Not too sure what the greatest is, just don't feel that the above one is it. It's good, it's nice, it just doesn't rate great in my book.

Yeah, I'm sittin' on this bar stool talking like a damn fool
Got the twelve o'clock news blues
And I've given up hope for the afternoon soaps
And a bottle of cold brew

styx ~ too much times on my hands...

@Region Philbis,
Busted flat in Baton Rouge, headin' for a train
Feelin' nearly faded as my jeans ...

Johnny was a schoolboy
When he heard his first Beatles song
Love me do, I think it was
And from then it didn't take him long

Is this the real life, is this just fantasy
Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality
Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see

Sneakin' sally through the alley
Trying to keep her out of sight
Sneakin' sally through the alley
When up pops the wife

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

@edgarblythe,
Two lyrics I thunk of are already here. Thunk up another:

If you're looking for trouble
You came to the right place
If you're looking for trouble
Just look right in my face
I was born standing up
And talking back
My daddy was a green-eyed mountain jack
Because I'm evil, my middle name is misery
Well I'm evil, so don't you mess around with me

The screen door slams, Mary's dress waves
like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely...hey that's me and I want you only...
don't send me home again, I just can't face myself alone again.

(in terms of setting a scene and creating a mood - I think this first line is the best (that I can think of right now anyway)
