Ever suddenly really listened to a lyric you thought you knew and realised the writer got it wrong? Well I have. And now you get to read them and share yours.

First up I was listening to John & Yoko's 'Happy Xmas (War is Over)' this morning:

John & Yoko wrote:
So, this is Christmas
And what have you done?
Another year over
And a new one just begun

Wait a second you hippies - if this is christmas the year hasn't ended yet - the new one certainly hasn't begun - another 6 days yet.

I could have lived with 'A new one about to begin' or 'So that was christmas' but it mustn't have passed the meter test.

@hingehead,
From "Don't Fear the Reaper", indicating only 40,000 people die every day.

Valentine is done
Here but now they're gone
Romeo and Juliet
Are together in eternity
(Romeo and Juliet)

40,000 men and women every day
(Like Romeo and Juliet)
40,000 men and women every day
(Redefine happiness)
Another 40,000 coming every day
(We can be like they are)

Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser made a wild stab in the dark that was the number. Genius.

Well, yes, I suppose 40,000 people do die every day, plus over a 100,000 more.

@chai2,
Ooh, good one. I fact checked your fact checking by finding the crude death rate in 1975 (10.7 per 1000) and then working out how many deaths per day for a population of 4 billion - just to make sure Blue Oyster Cult weren't caught out by changing demographics - even a generous calculation give around 110,000 deaths a day in 1975.

Currently the CDR is lower but because of population increases we lose about 170,000 a day.
