@trying2learn,

If what you're looking for is a change or something 'different' there are places you can move within the United States that would give you the same feel of living in a different country. I remember loving going to Miami and feeling as if I'd gone to Cuba and down into the Florida Keys and thinking that if I could move anywhere, I'd move there. There was just a much slower-paced and more relaxed attitude to life - the breezes were warm and gentle, the sunsets were amazing, the people were really friendly. It felt like another world compared to New York and environs which is where I grew up which felt like another world to San Antonio, Texas and environs which is where I was born, which felt like another world from the mountains of North Carolina, which is where I went to college....you get the picture.
When I moved to Maine, I felt like I'd moved to another country. Mainers have their own very independent way of thinking and doing things and totally different customs that are unique to them and were new to me.
I think if you moved to Alaska - that'd be like moving to a different country - sort of the new frontier idea - I bet the people who choose to live up there are really interesting.
I'm someone who gets bored easily and seeks out the 'different' and has my whole life. I loved my childhood, but when I became an adult, I wanted to see what else was out there and I've moved to more and different places than I can remember since then - including another country -and I've loved all of them for the interesting and unique differences they've each offered.
If I could live anywhere now, at this point in my life, I'd try either Alaska (I love the winter and snow) or Mexico or Key West (I also love the heat and the ocean and warm sea breezes, and the Spanish influence in food, music and architecture).
You know, that's what's great about the US - it's like a whole lot of different cultures stuck together - you can leave one state, go to another state and feel like you're in a whole different country - and you don't even NEED a passport or visa.
Good luck - I hope you find what you're looking for.
