Ain't it cool our children will have their own bread lines because we didn't take responsibility for our schools.

We had bread lines in New Mexico yesterday. Republican Governor Martinez delivered pizzas to everyone stuck in long lines waiting to cast their votes in one of New Mexico's largest cities. People in Rio Rancho had to wait for two and three hours to cast their votes.

By the way ronc, you should learn about cause and effect. Just because something happened before something else doesn't mean it was the cause. Just because Fox News told you something was the cause of something else doesn't mean it was either.

Damn that liberal bias. It keeps falling right in line with logic and math.

I know what you mean. For instance just because you can string words together doesn't mean you can construct intelligible sentences.

What are you going on about? Who's cutting funding to schools?

Clearly you don't understand socialism. Public schools are socialism pure and simple. Society organizing and paying for the education of others. Unless you are for eliminating public schools you are for socialism.

You might want to read "parados" argument regarding cause and effect. I honestly think there is some real benefit for you there.

@ronc0011,
If A is by definition B then there is no cause and effect. Even an 8th grader in the worst public school in the country should know that.

If you wish to argue that public schools in the US are not socialism then feel free to make such an argument. Lacking any valid argument from you I think most people will come to the conclusion that public schools are an example of the government controlling the education industry.

Sure, the way the public school system is setup certainly could be said to use a model crafted much in the shape of what is commonly understood as socialism.

BTW before you get yourself all wet in the throes of ecstasy with the idea of socialism you might want to see what Webster says of it.
http://www.webster-dictionary.org/definition/socialism

When you consider that U.S. schools and U.S. school kids / students are ranked as some of the poorest educated students in the world all I can say is I'm glad I went to public school long before the socialist took over.

in any even I fail to see where you are trying to get to with this line of thought. Surely you're not trying to equate the public school system with a desirable form of government. Or possibly trying to equate public schools with socialist or communist governments of history across the world. Or I guess , with contemporary American government.

@ronc0011,
You want to use the 1913 dictionary to define socialism? You do realize your definition predates the 1917 Russian revolution, don't you? So, in other words you have nothing to fear of the word "communism" since it is merely a theory and no country has attempted to practice it.

Socialism is from the World Net dictionary on your link
Noun 1. socialism - a political theory advocating state ownership of industry

Industry according to the 1913 Webster dictionary is
2. Any department or branch of art, occupation, or business; especially, one which employs much labor and capital and is a distinct branch of trade; as, the sugar industry; the iron industry; the cotton industry.

That leaves us with 2 statements and a conclusion -
Schools employ labor and capital.
Public schools are owned and controlled by the government.
Ergo - Public schools are socialism. They have always been socialism.

Which of my statements is false?
How is my conclusion not valid based on the 2 statements?

@parados,
OK whatever you like but it still brings me back to my real question are you arguing that the public school system equates to a form of government to be desired or that it is somehow a reflection of contemporary American government, Well, certainly the government you're about to get.

In fact I would have to concede that The American government has in later years been drifting ever closer to a socialist model of government.

But here's the really cool part. I'm old enough now that I'm not really going to have to deal with it. you guys just voted to take on the debt of the previous generation. the younger generation just voted to shoulder the debt that Obama is racking up because he is spending money this generation hasn't made.

Did it bother you that we got into debt by starting a war in Iraq or that we continue to decrease taxes for the wealthiest Americans?

@ronc0011,
I am pointing out you are so ignorant you don't realize that the school you went to was socialist. I am pointing out you are so ignorant that you decry socialism at the same time you tell us how great the socialist schools were when you went to them.

But most of all I am pointing out that you are so ignorant you are scared of words that you don't know the meaning of simply because someone told you that you needed to be afraid. You can't comprehend simple concepts or simple math. You have been led around by the nose for so long that now you think your nose is intelligent.

Obama is racking up debt? What do you think happened before Obama was elected President.

Here's a little question and the answer will surprise you.
What was the total interest the US paid on debt from 1988 to 2008?

The correct answer is $7.352 TRILLION. (Total debt at the end of GWBush's last fiscal year was 11.9 Trillion.)
Reagan tripled the debt during his 8 years so 2/3 of that $7 trillion could all be blamed on Reagan if you want to blame Presidents alone. But most thinking people realize that more than just a single President add to US debt. It is a long history of bad policy by both parties. The largest contributor to the current debt is interest on previous debt that has not been repaid.

I mean really, who'd a thunk it'd be that easy? Destroy the economy and people will stop wanting to come here. We should a thought of this ages ago That's the whole problem with having a rich and prosperous country everybody will want one.

Well don't have to worry about that any more.

Something else that's going to be pretty cool I will have lived long enough to be witness to the first global nuclear war. this is really going to be exciting I mean really think of it in today's world with HDTV, the internet , cell phone cameras and all the really cool technology we'e really going to get a good view of it. Tooo cool.
