Why is it necessary to supply your phone number for A2K support?

I just tried to use the "contact us" link (at the bottom of the page) for A2K support.
(I have a stuck "You've got mail! Click here to go to your inbox and read it." message, despite having read the last PM I received. But the message won't go away.)

Anyway, it seems that to receive a support ticket, there's a requirement that a phone number be provided.
I just left that field blank ( same as with any other internet inquiries to any other sites, because my phone number has nothing to do with my internet activities with any of them.... & I simply prefer not to post my phone number).
And I thought my internet address would be sufficient ID.
Anyway, apparently it isn't.
Unless the phone number is provided, I cant receive a support ticket, despite supplying my internet address.

Why is this?
I can't recall ever being required to provide my phone number before now.

@msolga,
That is new....certainly not required last time I contacted! Nor was the " I'm not a bot" thing.

I am assuming there have been some problems?

I have no problem providing my mobile number! I doubt A2k will be doing international calls any time soon! I'd also be happy to provide my brand new VOIP number....since I the number may possibly be requested to provide personal support for dicey issues?

I think the changes ought to be explained publicly though.

I would certainly not be happy for the majority of websites to have anything but an email address.

I don't think A2k is a black hat site Msolga, though I fully understand your questioning of the new, or newish, help protocols.

@dlowan,
Deb, let me assure you I'm not accusing A2K of anything.
I just don't post my phone number on the internet. To any site.
And in this case, it shouldn't be necessary to, anyway.
I just want to fix a technical problem, that's all.

@dlowan,
It's OK, Deb.
No worries.
I'm posting this online only because I can't access "support" without supplying my phone number, that's all.

@djjd62,
I might just try that, dj! Smile

No hang on ... I don't need to now, because I've contacted Region.
But I'll keep that in mind for the next time I'm asked by any any site!

@msolga,

it might be a browser-specific issue... what browser are you on?

using internet explorer, when i click Inbox (1), it automatically changes it to Inbox (0).

doesn't matter if i click the tab, or the link in the upper-right corner...

@Region Philbis,

Firefox.
I'll try IE & see if that makes any difference.

Back in a tick.

I'm on Safari right now. It's the same for me.

Looks like a support policy change.

after reading the PM, that is.

it's also possible you have an old un-read PM buried in your inbox...

@Region Philbis,
Logged on via IE now.
Opened the last PM again .
Back to New Posts.
Still (1) in the Inbox & the "you've got mail message across the top.

I'll check for unread PMs, but it would have to be a very recent one, (like late today) wouldn't it, as I've only had this problem a bit before I started thread ....

@Region Philbis,
This happened a while back and drove me, amongst others, crazier than usual.

I sent in a support ticket then.....and it was dealt with after some fiddling around.

@msolga,
That's fixed it!
An unread PM.
I must have received 2 almost similtaneously & read the one on top, thinking it was the only unread one ....

Thanks so much for your help, Region.
Sorry this has taken up so much of your time to fix.
Much appreciated.
