That’s strange. I report spam threads every morning and get an email back with the statis of the report. I’ve never seen a requirement that a phone number be provided.
You use the "contact us" link at the bottom of the page to do that , jc? (that's link to "support" where the requirement for the phone number is.)
I report spam posts regularly, too, but via the "report" button directly above the post.
It doesn't seem to be a required field. If you go to support (and it's the same place for that or for reporting spam), the phone # field isn't bolded and it doesn't have an asterisk next to it.
