Self-Conscient

I know a girl who would not go to movies by herself, wouldnt' go to a bar by herself either becuase she would feel like a loser, she's concern about how she's perceived.

What's the word used to describe a person like that? I used to use the world 'self-conscient', but just realized it's not a real word.

I cannot think of an individual word to describe what you are saying. I would say that a person who thinks and behaves as you describe is a hypersensitive, anxious, and overly concerned with the opinions of others.

If she were seventeen, I would say that this is normal behavior. Over that age,........................she may have BIG self esteem problems.
