Babs,

Quote:
*I fail to see how our new visitor can talk about his
nicotine addiction - yet at the same time say - that
ours is a disease of "choice"

I had quite a few PMs w/him. He understands!

Quote:
*We also have another newcomer - but you know
the type-they are not here because they are alcoholics,
they're just here because the court ordered them to
come because of that nasty little DUI

I know the type well and have but one thing to say - he has seen the light, he can not refuse the light is there - now he has to decide if he stays in the light. Some Do! I can only tell him my experiences and my strengths - My hope is I see him in five years in a meeting because it may mean he made it and I am still in the program!

Very much would like a meeting, would it be in the chatroom? I cannot access the chatroom and don't know how to download flash 4.

As for the potential newcomer, whether he is just thinking about his drinking, or the one with the dui - we are here to carry the message and the safety net - addiction is additction whether it's cigs, pot, booze or hard dsgrugs!

seaglass (and others)

You'll find the chat room, when you go to your "Control Panel". The button is below the 'Welcome'.

Normally, you should have 'flash 4' on your computer.
However, you can check - and download - it here:

macromedia (flash)

Um, what's the image for? I can't load it into the group description, if that's what you're aiming for.

PS You cannot leave messages in the chat room. Someone has to be chatting with you in order to read them.

I have recommended that we name our
user group Alcoholics Anonymous for
Members Only - while we leave the
outside thread open, I may change the
name to INTERESTED IN ALCOHOLIC
ANONYMOUS, HAVE QUESTIONS,
COMMENTS - ENTER HERE.
This will keep some VERY STRAY persons
from interfering with what is anonymous
amongst ONLY those of us who ARE AA
Members, we will eventually have a
closed group. OK? OK! Done!

Well I like to listen when in the group and the same on this thread, I don't see what it hurts to have it an "open meeting" as I have heard no one gets to AA by accident.
If some of these people learn a little about alcoholism, they may find they are already in the middle of it as I did.

Do I have to change my Avatar to join and go to a closed meeting?

Slimmerson and Mikey did you see that Jespah set up a user group for us. We can have closed or open meetings there and send e-mails to each other without going through the A2k pm function.

I have very mixed emotions about closed meetings, of any kind.

The sincere will stand out, and you can always ignore the cynics. Sooner or later they will go away.

Well as it SEEMS to stand... we ARE a user group
if we want it. I kinda don't really like the word
"user" Rolling Eyes if you know what I mean....but, that is
the term used here. We have an option on having a
weekly chat .... which we can set up for whatever
time/day/year suits us all.... its all up to us my fellow
"trudgers on the road to happy destiny" or whatever. Laughing Laughing
So ... we have options, but at this moment we do
NOT have the option of a private or a closed meeting.
That will be set up later on by the persons who do those
mysterious computer things like Craven & such.
So, as a forewarning to all concerned .. please DO read
in the basics, the article about WHO CAN SEE WHAT,
for mostly, anyone can see, copy, repeat, anything
that is visible here to you or I. Except maybe private
messages and definitely exchanged email addresses.
How was everyone's Christmas? Anyone having any
trouble staying sober through the holidays? Remember
that we are only as sick as the secrets we keep....
and as seaglass so aptly shared - share information
at your own risk out in the open. Personally, I am
SURE that there is no one in the universe who gives
a rats ass about this alcoholic's experiences, except
me (well, aside from my home group & my fellow
members here at home) I simply am NOT ALL THAT
INTERESTING OR IMPORTANT, though it wounds my
delicate little ego to say so! I had a very difficult time
getting home from Christmas at my daughter's in
S.C. due to my disease flaring up, and the huge
migration of people flooding south on I-95 towards
Florida. And I thought only birds did that! New Years
Eve is coming up.....so attend meetings, pm each
other, stay tight and stay together. Remember, Laughing
I drink - but WE recover!

Chaired a discussion meeting tonight on the 1st step. Interesting point made went something like this:

"It's not just enough that we recognize we were powerless over alcohol and that our lives had become unmanageable - It's also that we accept this principle."

This was very profound for me!

Knowing, and believing. That's an interesting distinction. Something to consider in a number of areas. Thanks, BillW.
