Any apple will do, but I do like those zyder apples. A few weeks ago I went to see a friend of mine who lives out in the countryside in Somerset. There's a pub there where they serve cider with vimto. I kid ye not. Everyone's walking about with purple pints.

You use it eactly the same way you'd use marmite, when you're out of marmite that is, and have to borrow your Kiwi housemate's stuff.

That's when I used it anyway.
