@cicerone imposter,
Well Islam's certainly leading the field these days.

I don't expect Islam or any other religion to take a good searching look at itself.

I was brought up Catholic, I've seen how religion hides it's dark secrets at all costs, how it preys on the fear and insecurities of the people, how it whips up that fear into anger. We've all seen religion do that, no?.

Like the tea party.

@eurocelticyankee,
I agree that attempting to attack Iran would be the height of folly. I don't see that idiocy like this would motivate the government to take such an idiotic step, nor to collude with Israel in such an attack.

I cannot agree at all that the idiots who made this piece would know that it would get anyone killed, nor do i think they are bright enough to have canvassed the possible consequence. If that's not what you meant, then i'm bemused at what you wrote.

@eurocelticyankee,
Yes; some of us are able to look both inwards and outwards to "see" the real world.

Excuse preaching hate?
No.

Should we prevent preaching hate?
No.

Why?
Because hate speech is not a direct cause of harm.

What strikes me and I'm only talking for myself is how Muslims kind of police each other. Even in my youth when Catholicism still had a grip of my country I never seen the anything like the iron grip Islam has on its followers.

A couple of little examples;
I'm staying in a hostel in Amsterdam, you had to show your passport, so I showed my American passport to the Middle Eastern owner. That night I'm dragged out of my bunk and laid into my the owners two sons. Of course they said later it was all a big mistake, blah blah, bullshit they attacked me because I was American and they were Muslim.

Then something that at first might seem insignificant, I'm in a chipper in Queens Park, London, now first off I must explain I tan well, anyway I'm in the chipper and I ask the nice lady behind the counter who happened to be Muslim for a steak and kidney and chips, hmmm, and she wouldn't give it to me because she thought I was Muslim and it was ramadan, crazy. Smile

That's just two little personal examples I think, of how much of a grip Islam has on its followers. Deep rooted.

Or, it might be done to tell all other smaller nations, with aspirations to be an alpha regional power, that it is not acceptable. The 22nd Century might be when this concern comes to fruition. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Also, unbeknownst to us little chickens, better minds, than anyone here, might have concluded that nuclear proliferation is just the first step to an uninhabitable planet. It might have come down to our responsibility to prevent nuclear proliferation, since the U.S. was the only nation to have used them in a war. You are talking, in my opinion, from your vantage point as a private citizen, with a modicum of information at your disposal, but a heck of a lot of strong opinions.

You are blaming religion for the wrong faults, in my opinion. Christianity teaches humility. How much humility have you found from fellow Catholics?

While Christianity might have been effective to manipulate the masses to a degree, it really hasn't been successful in its original goal, of getting all those pagan tribes that settled in Europe to all be one loving group.

@Setanta,
No way Mr S, we all know these Islamic extremists would riot at anything drawn, said or otherwise against their prophet and we all know that can lead to innocents being killed.
Even those idiots, if indeed they are idiots knew.

If I shut up, I would be allowing you to disenfranchise me from my membership in A2K. You are censuring me, just like the hate speech laws in Europe. And, you profess to be a follower of freedom of speech. You might have shades of hypocrisy in your actions?

@Foofie,
The word you wanted, Miller, is censor, not censure. I do censure, though, when i point out that you are an idiot. However, if i tell you to shut up, and you do, that's not one's fault but your own. Idiot.

I'm too humble to say.

All religions teach humility.... love.... peace.... tolerance..... understanding..... forgiveness....

It's a real shame none of them practise it.

From what I know and read about Stephen Colbert, when he's outside his blowhard character, he's a very humble and friendly Catholic.

You take yourself and your opinions so seriously. How did you become so serious? A vestige of your early schooling? Religious training?

But, since winter is approaching, you should be reminded to wear your shoes when you take out the garbage. You seem to have a penchant for walking barefoot in the snow. You know that any Brits on this forum would look askance at such behavior. Or, are you doing it for their benefit?

@Irishk,
The worst part, I was in bed with the woman, so she was terrified. When I snapped out of it I gave as good as I got.

Many Catholics exude a veneer of friendliness, since, in my opinion, they need points to get into Heaven. However, behind many a person's back, they can be as janus faced as anyone, in my opinion.
