Laisse-fairre or the notion that government doesn't interfere with a free market has ceased to be accurate beginning in 1912. In 1912 the source of the greatest competition for the paper, clothing, textile, and oil industries was made illegal. This was a direct contradiction of laisse-fairre. After this illegalization became nationwide in 1937, the economy has slumped because the more inexpensive alternative that this product offered was no longer available and a great deal of export from its produce was replaced by imports. Do you know what this product was? Hemp.
