Help me find my father befor its to late

Hi I am a 58 years old woman who has never really known my father and have been looking for him since 1976, as I don't have much information on my father its been very hard to track him down. Last I had contact from him was 1972 he was in Kingston ONT Canada after he had been deported from Australia, I don't know why as my grandmother who reared me never told me much about what my father was in jail for and now she has passed away. All she new about him has gone with her.
I have tried sites like ancestry but have not had any luck.
I dont have much money to hire a privet detective, so if there is any one that can point my in the right direction on how to fine him please let me know.
