Unwanted visitors in my apartment

Thu 23 Aug, 2012 06:47 pm
So, ever since I have moved to Singapore, I am grappling with some unwanted visitors in my apartment. I never had them back home in London so am struggling with how to get rid of them.

House lizards.

Yes, those creepy, crawly, yucky, monsters.

I am scared to open closets (now now), wear clothes (now now now) or even put my perfectly manicured feet in my shoes. I have been startled several times and one day I am going to drop something and break it.

I have spoken to several people who laugh and tell me to accept having lizards as fact of life in Singapore.

But I can't.

What do I do?

@the prince,
When you say "lizards", G, do you mean big, full-sized ones or little ones (geckos) like this?

@the prince,
Smile

They're all over the place in Bali & Java, we just had to learn to live with them in our travels there. Otherwise our time there would have been a nightmare.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I suspect there really isn't any way you can get rid of them. On the credit side, it's good to know that they can't harm you. I know that's no help if they upset you ....

If you check them out closely, they are rather pretty.
Well I thought so, anyway.

@msolga,
See?

Tiny little things, they are.

I Googled "beautiful geckos" & this is one of the images that materialized.:

@the prince,
They bring good, so they say. Pretend they are just cats that can climb walls and cross ceilings.

Adapt.

@the prince,
Ha ha there is nothing you can do. It's part of life in some parts of Asia. When I visited Tahiti, and Mumbai you could see them chilling on the ceiling on really hot days. Tip from locals is to cover everything in the kitchen, and generally keep food in cabinets in sealed containers or you might get some of their excretions into your tummy by accident... I know ewww.

We have hundreds of gecko’s and anole lizards here in Florida. Antonio catches them all the time, keeps them for a few days then turns them loose.

The gecko’s hang around the front door at night because the porch light is on and the light attracts the flying insects and if we open the front door it scars the geckos and then run in the house. They won’t come near you, they are only after the bugs.

@the prince,
I understand the lizard problem is less severe in Nome, Alaska. You might consider relocating. The lizards were there in Singapore before you, right?

@the prince,
Lizards in your apartment? Lovely!!! lucky you. I especially love geckos. We had a lovely big one where we stayed on the APY Lands. Loved it. There was a mouse plague too.

Why not get your phobia treated and learn to love them? They'll eat all the insects and spiders too!

@the prince,
Ship them to me and to my apartment in Brooklyn. Razz They'd help me with my bug problem. My friend's cat would be too lazy to interact with these newly imported "pets."
