This may sound like a cliche, but you would do well to study prefixes, suffixes, and roots. Other than that, get a dictionary and start with A.

I've watched the national spelling bees on tv. Kids are always asking for the language of origin. They study roots, and the language of origin often can provide a hint.

Good luck.

And have people quiz you - just ask them to open a dictionary at random and ask you to spell whatever word they see.

READER'S DIGEST . . .
In every issue of the Reader's Digest is a section called "Word Power." It's a multiple choice quiz. Usually on specific category. Your library should have back issues. Or, it may be on the Web at

http://rd.com

along with a lot of other articles from the current and past issues. There are other sites on the Web to test your spelling skills. In a second post here, I'll send you one.

Do you have a word list to study?

Just for "amusement" or "amazement" . . . the -ible and -able words depend on their Latin roots. But, really now, how is one to know whether a word stems from -abilis or -ibilis??? :-) :-) :-)
