@dalehileman,
Me thinks you'll find out shortly. Razz

Seriously though I believe your post goes below viewing threshold after you a get a certain amount of thumbs down, how many?, I'm not sure.

@eurocelticyankee,
Thanks Euro but by “thumbs down” do you mean negative report

I always thought it was below viewing because after you already viewed it and if there wasn’t a new post added to the thread it went to your below viewing threshold?

@dalehileman,
No, I mean use the thumb down facility, there's one on every thread and post.
Again Mr D; I,m not certain of this and I'm sure there's smarter people here that could tell you for sure.

Euro, I don’t see any such—where it is to be found

Right under the headline of this thread, over on the left, you'll see two icons, a thumbs-up and a thumbs-down. Same is true at the start of every post, near your avatar. You click on the downward thumb, it closes the thread or the post on your website. Others can still see it but not you.

Thank you Andy. I had assumed them to be flowers

But still not quite sure how one drops below the threshold

Y'know, I'm not either. But I'm thinking that eurocelticyankee might be right -- if enough people click thumbs down on the thread, it just kind of disappears from view due to its apparent unpopularity. You can probably resurrect it by clicking on the "below viewing threshold" text. Maybe.

@Lustig Andrei,
If Jespah sees this thread, I hope she'll come along and explain it in more technical detail.

@Lustig Andrei,
The option is in the MY PREFERENCES, under the sub called Topic Preferences. I don't recall what negative amount causes it to disappear, but the whole thing is optional, though I'm fairly sure it defaults to the Collapse option. You can change it if you want

@roger,
In dropping below my threshold I’m about to default negatively to the collapse option, thumbs down without hope of change

@dalehileman,
Well, that's why they call it an option.

You're correct on this account. I'm not sure how many thumbs down a thread must have to get it but that's the appropriate term. Seen a lot of word games with this label. So when I do see it, I usually click on the link to make sure I'm not missing out on an active word game.

@tsarstepan,
Tsar's right. I remember thinking that it was 5 thumbs-down to put it below the viewing threshold, but I'm not sure.

The thing is, if you thumb it down yourself, then you just get an option to view it ("Post voted down (view)") -- it doesn't say "below viewing threshold." You see "below viewing threshold" if enough OTHER people have thumbed it down.

@sozobe,
Also -- I remember seeing Robert say this somewhere -- individual posts show the actual thumbs-down number, but whole topics do not. No matter now many thumbs-down they get, it doesn't go below "0".

So you can track it for a post -- first -3, then -4, then it's "below viewing threshold" -- but if you look at a topic that is "below viewing threshold," it will just show a 0.

Thank you again Soz

But I’m wondering just how many of us have or will delve into this so very deeply
