A man was asleep in his Everett, Washington home when he was awakened
by the sound of breaking glass. The homeowner retrieved a .38-caliber revolver,
went to investigate and discovered a man armed with a hammer climbing through
a kitchen window. The homeowner shot and killed the home invader.

Investigators made clear that they do not plan to charge the homeowner,
with Prosecuting Attorney Mark Roe explaining, “We are quite certain
that a jury would conclude that the shooting was justifiable self-defense.”
Police also noted that the deceased criminal was a suspect in a January burglary investigation.

I just learned today that on average 80 people are killed everyday in America by gunshots. I doubt they are all home invaders.

Why couldn't he have just shot to wound instead of kill? Shoot in the knee cap or hand or something?

Itll make a great anecdote , that when you sell the house , you will need to explain the huge blood spot on the floor that could not be fully removed

It was in the kitchen.
Maybe it fell into the sink.

If not, he can sue decedent 's estate for damages.

What is the source of your information ?

Most of the time,
when criminal predators merely SEE defensive guns
being brought to bear against them, thay swiftly flee.

That is what happend in my own case.

There r some problems with that:
1. If he survives, he might well sue u,
telling all kinds of lies to support his claim in tort against u
hoping for as good of a settlement as he can get from your homeowners insurance.

2. Those r not good targets, Mame; hard to hit, moving n small.
U can waste your ammunition, when u need it.

My own personal vu, favors aiming at the pelvic girdle.
It tends to slow them down. Many criminals don't like to be shot there.
Thay think it brings bad luck when their intestines r contacted by gunfire.
( Probably an idle superstition. )
