It is neither a red herring nor a straw man that some states only allow people to have full autos if they have a federal license.

What license is that oralloy? You just got done telling is there is NO federal license.

First time the conversation has turned from "you demanding that we give up our freedom".

You are wrong. And Americans will never give up their freedom.

spendius wrote:
According to Stendhal politicians carried weapons in Congress. Do they now?

No idea.

spendius wrote:
How do you shake hands with someone who is carrying concealed. The whole point of the handshake was to offer unarmed hands. Concealed weapons are devious.

You ought to have them on show or not have them at all. Houses with weapons inside could have a notice saying "These premises are protected by the NRA."

Security at Manchester Airport have their machine guns on show.

As things stand you have an unfair advantage over those who don't or can't carry guns. They will respect your arguments when heated, or even warmed over in the case of those on a short fuse, more than your arguments deserve.

Get everybody opened and unashamedly tooled up like the 2nd says. Then we all know where we stand.

The problem with open carry is the police feel they can hassle people who carry openly.

Before open carry can be mandated, we need to put stringent limits on the police to ensure they do not hassle people who carry guns.

spendius wrote:
It's you who are wimping it old boy and shifting sophistries around in the syrup with a silver spoon to try to disguise it.

Nonsense. You're accusing me of having a certain viewpoint without knowing if it is true, then criticizing me for the view you don't even know that I have.

I have nothing against open carry so long as we first put stringent limits on the police to ensure that they do not hassle people who carry guns.

And your wimp criticism is out of place when it comes to self defense in any case.

Self defense is not some macho contest where you have to allow the other guy to have a fair shot at you. If you are going about your business and someone chooses to assault/rob/rape/murder you, you have the right to end their attack by any means whatsoever. Fair play is not required.

@oralloy,
if you are man enough to openly carry a firearm, you should be man enough to show your license if a law officer wants to see it.

this is not 1888...

You need a federal license to be a gun dealer. The government just requires you to have one of those licenses if you are in one of those states.

One of the federal dealer licenses (Curio and Relic) is less about gun stores and more about private collectors. It's cheaper and more user friendly (and you don't have to maintain a business to justify it), and that is usually what people get to satisfy the requirement.

I understood from another poster that they did. They have ballistic fingerprints as well.

License plates? I've never heard of putting license plates on a gun.

Your equating the exercise of civil rights with masculinity is all wrong. The free exercise of our civil rights has nothing to do with being macho.

And no. You don't get to hassle Americans for choosing to exercise their civil rights.

Freedom is not some fleeting concept that our ancestors got to enjoy but now we in the present have to forgo.

Americans will never give up our freedom.

I did no such thing. What's left of your freedom isn't worth a continental.

The cops don't hassle us unless we ask for it. Fancy talking about freedom and the cops hassling you in the same breath.

Sheesh!!

What's a traceable serial number if not a license plate?

How much info about yourself have you to offer to get a gun license? You'll all be on a computer base somewhere.

No, the cops would love to hassle law-abiding people who carry guns if they were allowed to get away with it.

If you want open carry, the cops are going to have to be forced to not hassle law-abiding people who carry guns openly.

That would be more like the VIN number on a car.

I've never gone to the trouble to get a full auto, so have never gotten a Curio and Relic license, so I don't know exactly what information would be supplied.

Off hand, I think if I did get a full auto, instead of a Curio and Relic license I'd aim to become a Class III Special Occupational Taxpayer.

I'd have to have a small business selling NFA weapons. In Michigan that would probably be mostly selling "smooth-bore handguns" (sort of a variant of the sawed-off shotgun). But being a Class III SOT would allow me to own post-86 guns.

@oralloy,
Are you a real timorous, insecure wimpy person, Oralloy? I can't imagine someone who was strong of character being so obsessed with guns.

I think obsession with owning ever-escalating "superior firepower" has to be compensation for something lacking somewhere.

In any case, you gun nuts "smooth bore" people to death with all your prattle about your big bad guns.

Not particularly. But neither am I excessively macho.

But that is irrelevant, because wimpy people have the same right to defend themselves that everyone else has.

That's bigotry talking.

More bigotry.

The typical name-calling of a freedom-hater.

--------

Based on your behavior over the past few days, I presume you are unstable and like to attack random people on the street, and it frustrates you that your potential victims might possibly be armed and able to defend themselves from your aggression.

However, you should understand that the right of Americans to carry guns is non-negotiable. You are just going to have to accept not being able to assault random passerby.

Awe-inspiring insight. Based on your words on this forum, you are a delusional scared little manlike thing with desperate delusions of having influence over something more than the keys on your sad keyboard.

And you fantasize about shooting someone because it makes you feel powerful.

In fact, you should be grateful that people here take the time to stop and make fun of you.

If you weren't unwilling comic relief, there'd be no use at all for you here.

Pretty straightforward actually. Your lowbrow behavior speaks for itself.

Big words for someone who can't show a single fact that I'm wrong about.

You making fun of everything you are too stupid to understand (which given your low IQ, is pretty much everything) actually tends to be a form of pollution on the boards.

Like I said before, the boards would be better off if 'tards like you were all dragged off to an asylum somewhere.

Nope. Unlike you I am a regular source of helpful facts.

My viewpoint is to point out the reality that registration is not a license.

Your comment, in response to a description of registration, was:

"That is close enough to a license to suit me."

Your presumption is correct. I do not understand how your comment agrees with me.

It is always a good sign to find yourself in agreement with me, since I am so often in agreement with the truth.

However, perhaps a little more clarity that you actually agree with me?

There's some evidence for that. Our colonial cops hassled law-abiding people in India who were putting wives on dead blokes funeral pyres.

22 US cops have been killed by guns this year so far. 59 in 2010.

Such figures have knock on effects in many directions. Being hassled by cops is only one of them.

If you think you can show any facts that I've gotten wrong here, you are free to do so.

Of course, you can't actually point to any facts I have wrong, can you? All you can do is make vague insinuations without backing them up.

If you are unwilling to have the police be restrained from hassling law abiding gun carriers, then your request for a program of open carry is denied.
